to be freaked out by ? ghostly hand

OK so I do not believe in ghosts, never seen or felt one in all my many years. Live in a victorian terrace and been there 5 years and never felt anything. Last night my DH was away so I was alone in bed and was woken up by the sensation of a hand holding and squeezing my left hand (which was outside the sheets). I woke up in a start and jumped out of bed. ( The dog was calmly sleeping on his bed on the floor). I felt quiet scared and freaked out by it to be honest but managed to get back to sleep although I still feel quiet shaken this morning - WTF was this, anyone had anything similar? Some sort of dream that seemed real... yikes I am scared to sleep in that house alone now.

Any relatives that have passed that it might be? I might not be the best person to answer this as I do believe in ghosts! I think if they were holding your hand though it was a loved one
Surely everyone has dead relatives??

@Jacopo

What do these ghosts think they’re doing, cuddling and hugging living people? If they think it’s going to give people comfort they are sadly mistaken. Thoughtless bastards.
🤣

I slept awkwardly and one hand had gone completely dead. I woke and found my 'live' hand holding what I thought was a stranger's hand in bed. I nearly had a thrombie.

I was woken up a couple of times. Once to the sound of a window smashing. I raced downstairs, but nothing broken. The second time I woke up and sat up in bed, to a man shouting, "Hello, hello, hello! Hey look, she can hear me, i told you! Hello?!" I still heard it, whilst sitting up. I went back to sleep and said my prayers. As soon as I said them, the voice stopped. I believe sometimes it's dreaming, but sometimes we slip into a frequency which is for spirit world.

Google "hypnopompic hallucination". You can get tactile hallucinations with this. Probably that.

Ok, any recently deceased relatives then? I'm pretty sure everyone would know what I meant by what I wrote. Or are you just a bit slow?

HangingDitch · 08/12/2021 11:49

It’s your mind playing tricks on you.

The other night I had a clear memory of there being a hand on the back of my neck that lifted me up to the corner of the bedroom.

It didn’t happen. I was half awake and half asleep. All in my head.

NannyR · 08/12/2021 11:53

It could be sleep paralysis? When I get this, I wake up with the very real sensation of someone pulling my duvet off me. It usually happens when I'm stressed, overtired or ill.

Something similar happened to me. It’s so spooky when you think your own hand belongs to someone else.
Cattitudes · 08/12/2021 12:26

If you live in Button House then this is totally Thomas. If not then just watch Ghosts to cheer yourself up.

You probably just laid on a nerve awkwardly.

SirVixofVixHall · 08/12/2021 12:29

My friend has experienced this in her house, but it has happened when she is awake…

Pedalpushers · 08/12/2021 12:30

Living with me is basically a horror story. My DH often wakes up to see me talking to someone who is obviously not there, often arguing.

God, this would freak me right out!!

rifling · 08/12/2021 12:33

I do think it was a sleep thing rather than a ghost thing. However my non-woo grandmother told me that once she was knitting and something took the needles out of her hands and threw them across the room. I have no explanation for that one!

I’d suspect she’d had some sort of mini TIA and thrown the. Across the room herself.
Flutterflybutterby · 08/12/2021 13:04

Haven't you seen Paranormal Activity? Keep all limbs safely under the duvet! Roll yourself up like a sausage roll! Then you'll be safe from things like this Grin

rifling · 08/12/2021 13:28

@counsellortroi I actually said that and she said that it feels very different to throw something as opposed to having it taken out of your hands.

This reminded me of when I was a child I had the same thing woke up with a dead hand and had to use the other to lift it, accidentally hit myself around the face with the dead hand and wonder who the hell had just whacked me in the face!
