Should my family visit when covid rife at school?

Posting for traffic (I will keep covid content light. Promise).

Parents due to visit this weekend before travelling abroad. Likely away for some time. Desperate to see kids as won’t see them for a while and due to other health issues in family (not covid related) haven’t seen them for a few months.

Dilemma is that covid is going round daughter’s class. 3 confirmed cases (including class teacher) in last week. Seems like more kids are off today so that number could rise.

None of us have symptoms. Doing lateral flow tests daily. Obviously if any of us show symptoms or test positive we won’t see them (they are staying at hotel nearby).

But I have an awful feeling about seeing them if we continue to test negative on lat flows but somehow daughter is carrying and we pass on. Worst case scenario is that they fail pre flight PCR or take it abroad and have it over there. However I don’t know if I’m over thinking it and we should carry on if testing negative and with no symptoms.

WWYD?

YABU - crack on. Enjoy the precious family time. No need to worry when no symptoms and negative lateral flows.

YANBU - even if testing negative and no symptoms, not worth risk of meeting indoors pre international travel when daughter clearly exposed to covid.

This is not your dilemma. Give them the info in your post and let them decide. I would skip it if I was them. Would not care about getting covid but would not want to have it abroad or pass it on to a plane load of people.

As PP says, it's not really your decision? They are adults so make sure they know all the facts as you've described and then they can decide what to do?

That said, I am currently on day 6 of isolation having caught covid from DS, through whose Y4 class it has been sweeping...

Yeah - covid is ripping through my dc school currently and I have given this info to visiting family members and let them decide.

Book your daughter a PCR test and inform your family of the outcome hopefully before the weekend. I’m in a similar boat! Schools are rife and if family want to see me and my family this side of January they will have to assess the risk themselves.

I wasn’t sure I could get her a PCR test without symptoms? Something to think about I suppose though. I quite agree it’s their call, not mine. But I think they may be living in wishful thinking land. I did have to set out risks for them, alongside my updated info on more cases in class. I felt like the bad guy which led me to wonder if I was over worrying. But I imagine it’s just an inherently ambiguous situation and they have to make their own (tough) judgment call on it.

One school some of my kids attend request the class gets a PCR if there is confirmed case in the class. You can absolutely book one with that reason. Hope you can see your family x
