To expect baby clothes to fit the advertised age range

Bought two rompers online in size 6-9 for my average sized, just 5mo. Bought in the sale and company policy is no returns or exchanges on sale items.
Expected them at worst to fit fine and best to have some growing room. They are Christmassy so needed to get it right rather than buy much larger and save for later.

They arrive and look about the size of her newborn things. One is so small she can't even wear it (as in, it doesn't even do up!) and one does up but stretched to its limits. Tags say 6-9 so I've been sent the 'right' size

Of course I understand all retailers have size discrepancies but there is no way these items would fit an average 6-9mo at any point! AIBU to think these are not as described, or fit for purpose? Anything I can do to get my money back?

Err.....follow the retailers returns policy?

BoobsOnTheMoon · 07/12/2021 07:33

Email them with a photo of the 6-9 one next to the newborn one and see what they say.

What retailer is it, just out of interest? Some shops have bonkers sizing!

Whinge · 07/12/2021 07:36

Do they have a size chart on their website, and do the outfits you bought match the sizes listed?

Madmaxxy · 07/12/2021 07:36

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz

Thanks for your help......as mentioned in the first paragraph the official policy is no returns or exchanges on sale items.

Are you in the UK? By law you have 14 days to return it, their policy is unlawful. Might not be worth it by the time you've paid return postage though.

Madmaxxy · 07/12/2021 07:46

@EllieSattler thanks yes I am. Even for sale items?

Their policy can't override the law.

By law you have the right to return items bought online. They can't just opt out of UK distance selling rules

girlmom21 · 07/12/2021 07:53

Have you checked the size guides?

Madmaxxy · 07/12/2021 08:02

Thank you @dementedpixie

A lot of them also provide weight/height information alongside the suggested age. I found that to be a better indicator for babies.

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 08:05

I always find the clothes to be massive! Did they put a size guide online? That covers themselves a bit if it matches

Clymene · 07/12/2021 08:06

They can't refuse to give refunds if they're selling online.

CloudyStorms · 07/12/2021 08:08

@Clymene

They can't refuse to give refunds if they're selling online.
Ah did not know that. That's good. Just wondering what retailer it is as most of them accept refunds
JustWonderingIfYou · 07/12/2021 08:17

Distance selling regulations, they have to give you a refund l.

However I don't think most baby clothes fit the correct size as babies vary so much in size so YABU with your title.
