To think finishing on the 22nd for Christmas is a bit daft?

I’m just wondering why some schools are finishing so late and why going back for half a week?

I can only think it’s to have that week on the other side of January and it is nice in a way but it’s making the run up to Christmas absolutely frantic. This happens in the summer too and it’s practically august when the schools break up here so you miss all the best weather!

AIBU or is this a bit silly?

ah so no issues with childcare or annual leave if the school breaks up early. That explains it.

Not sure schools should set their timetable to suit people’s annual leave of childcare requirements.

The vast majority of people I’m working with, with or without children, are finishing up on the 17th.

Mine finishes on 17th & I wish it were later as there very little in the way of holiday clubs etc..for us working parents to use.

@BoredZelda Really! That is 8 whole days before Christmas! How much annual leave do you get?

MintyGreenDream · 06/12/2021 19:41

16th to 5th here

@StormyTeacups

Primary school is the Friday, with inset days on the Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday.

Secondary is finishing on the Wed.

Do you mean they're doing those training days at the end of term??? Good luck to whoever is organising that one, we did it once, in July, swore never to do it again!

My eldest in secondary school finish 17th and return 4th. My youngest in primary finishes 21st and returns the 5th. I think the teachers are going to have a difficult time on the last few days!

Oblomov21 · 06/12/2021 20:36

17th - 4th here and I think that's good.
