I feel like it's urgent I find out the answer to this so I am being brave and bold and doing an AIBU...

Please can anyone tell me the brand of hot chocolate they use in the John Lewis "the place to eat" cafes? I had one recently and it was soooo chocolatey without being at all sickly sweet. I loved it.

And does anyone else have any similar questions or behind the scenes tips to share?

And since I am asking a question I will offer up a tip. You can easily make the onion dip! Topping that you get with poppadoms in Indian restaurants. It's just diced onion and a bit of tomato ketchup.

Recently stopped at a motorway service station which had hardly any franchises.

Ventured forth to Burger King , which I haven't been to in so long that I can't even remember.
Their fries... OMG their fries!!!
I've had chips/fries in so many places over the years but THESE fries were the best!!!

McDonalds , gastropubs, local chippies, McCains, supermarket own... all bland and a tad flaccid or far too crispy/overdone.

Yeah, Burger King fries... and I don't really like their food, either!

"!" Should be "/"

@droopyclematis I've heard a few people say this but I just didn't get it at the time. I think I need to go back and try those fries. As a child I preferred McDonald's. My preferred place of these types of places is kfc, but even then I probably go less than once a year.

I don’t like that kfc sell chips now instead of fries, they may be healthier but they don’t taste as good. I want fries!

DroopyClematis · 05/12/2021 20:51

It’s bonkers really . I’m not a huge fan of fast food , but like the odd McDonalds occasionally.
Haven’t had KFC, Burger King etc.. for many years and I just suddenly felt drawn to Burger King as the noodle bar food looked really greasy, I didn’t want a fancy sandwich from the Waitrose concession and couldn’t face a Harry Ramsden’s fish and chips. Not much else on offer.
Alas, I now want more Burger King fries … just not anything else.
I did have their chicken burger thing but it had so much Mayo in It that the chicken kept sliding out and the bun was too soggy.

Avarua · 05/12/2021 20:54

I have a tip. Almost all of the brownie or risotto you buy at a cafe has recently been removed from the freezer. The risotto comes in huge plastic bags. The brownie comes in a huge frozen slab.

ChikiTIKI · 05/12/2021 21:00

I think I would have made the same choice @droopyclematis sounds good apart from the excessive amount of mayo. I would have got a chicken burger too. Don't really like beef burgers.

@avarua I always feel a bit fleeced buying a pudding in a restaurant as I know they're usually bought in... But I sometimes just can't resist whatever the most chocolatey thing on the menu is!

Use full fat milk, and mix in a tiny bit of cornflour to make it thicker. I promise it will feel soooo indulgent.
ChikiTIKI · 08/12/2021 20:08

@unvillage ooh I've not tried cornflour before but do always use whole milk. I will give it a try. It's the chocolate powder though.... I just want to know what they use... It's much nicer than cadburys which is a bit too sweet for me really...
