Aibu to hate the marc jacobs 'perfect' advert?

It's like the Christina aguilera song ' beautiful

We are not all perfect or beautiful but that is absolutely bloody fine.
Most of us a bit wonky in some way but we are kind or funny or clever or interesting or contented, all of which is much more important than beautiful or perfect.

I know it doesn't scan properly but ' i am absolutely fine just the way i am' is a better way to think of it.

I hate it with a vengeance.

They are all claiming to be oh so perfect with their perfect makeup, perfect hair, expensive clothes blah blah.

They're not perfect because they need to be preened to within an inch of their lives to be perfect, so they don't actually think the real them is perfect.

According to my husband I'm perfect in the morning with no make up, hair stuck on end and my baggy tracksuit bottoms. That will do for me.

Perfect rant over!

ladygindiva · 05/12/2021 21:41

Haven't seen the advert but the perfume is lovely, I got it for my birthday the other day. As you were.

MONSTERSALAD · 05/12/2021 21:43

Perfume adverts are always wank, though. It's such an abstract thing to sell - there's no point explicitly saying 'This smells nice' because, well, durr, it's perfume, so you have to turn it into a concept, like it's something that says something about you other than that you like smelling of flowers/sweets/dew/hedgehog.

Westerman · 05/12/2021 21:48

One of the girls in the Daisy ad looks about 13 or 14 and I find that quite disturbing. Most of the perfume ads are awful.

UmmAyisha · 05/12/2021 21:52

@MONSTERSALAD if a perfume advertised to smell like hedgehogs I would probably want to buy it tbh

edenhills · 05/12/2021 21:52

The Daisy one makes me irrationally angry! The flower on the bottle is not a daisy! It doesn't have enough petals. I'm pretty sure the flowers in the girls hair are camomile flowers not daisys too!

Curlygirl06 · 05/12/2021 22:21

Every time either of these adverts appear, I'm sure they were made by the 6th form media studies group in a rush before school breaking up on a Friday.

LastSummerHere · 06/12/2021 09:39

It's the Miss Dior ad with Natalie Porter that makes me want to throw things at the TV. I hate the way she smiles at the end. 'What would you do for love?' Angry Mind your own business Porter.

Yes!! That smile at the end, it’s so subtle but you know they took time perfecting it to be exactly like that. I like Natalie Porter but that ad is so irritating!
CouldIhaveaword · 06/12/2021 09:51

@StoneofDestiny

They all seem to be saying 'purfect' instead of 'perfect' to me - but I guess it's an accent thing.
It's the one who says 'pahhfect' that winds me up.
Roominmyhouse · 06/12/2021 09:53

Perfume adverts are one of the worst things about the Christmas period. I hate them all, they are so wanky.

LastSummerHere · 06/12/2021 09:53

Yes, so perfected. It is exactly the same knowing, condescending smile all these beautiful celebrities give us nobodies in the perfume ads. They're saying - I'm flogging this perfume that I don't wear for a fat pay packet, knowing plebs like you will buy it to try to be like me....and you will fail.😂

HerbivorousRex · 06/12/2021 09:59

The Caroline Herrera ‘Good Girl’ is the one that annoys me the most (it’s not even the advert, it’s the name of the perfume- a toddler or dog is a ‘good girl’, as an adult it just makes me cringe)

sashagabadon · 06/12/2021 10:03

Yes it’s very annoying as is the daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy daisy one. Both idiotic imo

sashagabadon · 06/12/2021 10:06

I actually love the channel number 5 one with the dancing couple on the moon. “We’re on each other’s team” pretty tune

Scoobydoobywho · 06/12/2021 10:14

I too hate it. I know I'm not perfect, and I'm happy to accept that, so stop being so bloody patronising saying everyone is perfect.Perfume advertising comes across as pretentious at the best of times. Most of the time I have no idea what the product is until the end.

That is one spectacularly annoying ad (as was the previous incarnation, which was all about shouting at your boyfriend, weeping photogenically in a tutu on a bus, driving in circles on a beach, and jumping off a pier in a nice dress). It's such a fucking safe, telegenic version of 'crazy love'.

It makes me want to say. 'Actually, Natalie, I kidnapped him and kept him in my bedroom tied to a chair, so feck off with the 'I'm so kerrazzy, I drove around in a truck full of flowers for love' stuff.''

I like the way she smiles at him at the very end.

The Johnny Depp ones used to annoy me too, but I find substituting with the word Sausage helps enormously.

This is the one that drives me mad. She looks annoyed when she says it and I end up shouting at the tv 'WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO'

Thedogscollar · 06/12/2021 10:19

Neither are great but they have done what they set out to do and we are all talking about them and we may possibly go on to buy the damned stuff.

Mybalconyiscracking · 06/12/2021 10:22

“And you, what would you do for love?”
Harass a whale, roll about in a field of artificial flowers?

What???

Teaandcakeordeath83 · 06/12/2021 10:22

All perfume and aftershave ads are universally awful. Just full of absolute word salad guff. The Marc Jacobs ones are particularly irritating. My and DH like to substitute the "perfect" one with "normal".... I don't want to be perfect. They smell bloody awful too.

kwiksavenofrillsusername · 06/12/2021 10:43

I like how the ad has the message that everyone is beautiful in their own way and blah blah diversity, but the actual face of the brand on posters and the main model in the advert is Lila, Kate Moss’s daughter, who is very much conventionally attractive. Plus everyone is so over made-up and filtered you probably wouldn’t recognise them on the street.

I suppose it’s better than the ad where Natalie Portman is rolling around in fields or whatever with that old geezer and asking us what we’d do for love.

VienneseWhirligig · 06/12/2021 10:51

"And you, what would you do for love?"

Nat, I would do anything (but I won't do that)

I don't think they aim to irritate. Personally, the very last thing I would do is buy Miss Dior, which is now forever tainted with Natalie P's irksome cavortings. Or the one where Julia Roberts wafts through a fountain in a nasty white dress and gets the party started, or the one where Kiera Knightley roars off across Paris on a motorbike that requires her to lie almost flat while wearing what appears to be a condom with matching helmet.

Maybe I'm not the target market for perfume ads. Grin
