I really wish Xmas was more like Easter. Time off work for me and DH, family getting together but without the present buying part

DariaMorgendorffer · 05/12/2021 19:58

Not feeling it at all.

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 05/12/2021 19:59

Been to 2 Christmas fayres in my little town this weekend, a Christingle Service at Church, and a little mini concert at the community centre from a ladies choir singing Christmas songs. Put the lights on and decorations up yesterday too, and wrapped all the presents. Me and DH have just opened a bottle of wine and are about to watch 'Home Alone.' So I am feeling VERY Christmassy right now ... 🎄🎄🎄

Fairylights25 · 05/12/2021 20:00

If the consumerism is getting to you make your own gifts, spend time baking and decorating with natural flowers/leaves and holly. It does not need to be all fake and plastic. Genuine goodwill, kindness and creativity can go a long way.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 05/12/2021 20:00

Very christmassy this year although I'm making a special effort to be for ds as me and his dad separated so I'm trying to make it an extra special Christmas this year.

TheVanguardSix · 05/12/2021 20:03

Got all the decorations up, lights outside... fake it until you make it sort of thing.
I feel 0% Christmassy.
Last Christmas, my husband got Covid and came so close to death. It was all tears and anguish and prayers.
This Christmas, I'm alone with the kids. My husband is an ex who is now out on bail awaiting charges after admitting to sexually abusing our daughter.
So, it's all a bit shit, innit.
Hopefully, by the time my eldest comes home from uni, we'll all be cheerful and merry and bright and all that jazz.

Etinoxaurus · 05/12/2021 20:04

Very! Although I’ve done very little. About 1/3 presents bought. Tree collected still in the car. I did mega advent calendars for dc and I’m hosting a part for 60 on Friday, I’ll do the rest after that.

EcoCustard · 05/12/2021 20:07

Not feeling it at all. All been ill for a fortnight now and still feel crap. Was hoping the Christmas winter walk I booked for Tuesday evening might start getting me in the festive mood but it looks like heavy rain & gales. Third year in a row of shite weather. Put the tree up today and kids all in tears as our beloved cat isn’t here. She was always first in the Christmas tree box, sat staring at the lights before playing with the baubles. All the school stuff is relentless at the moment too.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 05/12/2021 20:08

Not at all. Can't afford to buy anything for anyone. Very depressed.

AliveAndSleeping · 05/12/2021 20:08

Too much going on. I wish it was still November 😭

Chesneyhawkes1 · 05/12/2021 20:10

Not at all 😣

MarcelineMissouri · 05/12/2021 20:10

I was feeling extremely Christmassy until a couple of weeks ago when omicron started kicking off.
To give you an idea of how Christmassy I am usually, I own 20+ Christmas jumpers and it takes us days to fully decorate our house.
But dh industry will take another hammering if things go tits up and I just cannot relax. This feeling of impending dread over another big wave of covid has totally stolen my Christmas spirit.

Dryshampoofordays · 05/12/2021 20:11

Very Christmassy! We have a beautiful 5month old DD and although she has no idea what’s going on I’m already feeling so happy and festive. After losing my mum to cancer in 2017, a miscarriage just weeks before Christmas in 2019 and the shit show of last year this is the first truly happy Christmas I’ve had for years, and I’m feeling very blessed.

MarshaBradyo · 05/12/2021 20:11

Quite - but have near four year old who is very excited

Keladrythesaviour · 05/12/2021 20:13

Not at all. Mid kitchen refurb though we did buy the tree yesterday. Not decorated, were now just working around it. I haven't even written cards yet which I normally do end of November (and then post them later). We've got a friend's gathering (at ours, help!) next weekend so I'm praying a)we are ready for it and b)it kick-starts the Christmas spirit.

Rainydays55 · 05/12/2021 20:19

I’m glad it’s not just me who’s not really feeling it!! My work is really stressful at the moment which is definitely not helping!

Very. Just ticking away the next two weeks till work closes bit I know I am bound to get something appalling come way before the end, usually on the last day of term if previous years are anything to go by. Tree went up yesterday and I am enjoying its twinkly prettiness.

Ds1 (21) is doing his very best to Scrooge me by young-mansplaining, repeatedly, why Christmas is a shallow commercial exercise and make out that I am a naive fool for enjoying it. I am going to save him the bother by not buying him anything other than useful gifts like socks and deodorant.

bloodywhitecat · 05/12/2021 20:20

Not even in the slightest but I know I need to for the sake of the fosterlings. I am currently hoping against hope that DH will be home in time for Christmas and that we can rearrange the downstairs to fit a hospital bed in the lounge and a lounge in the dining room. Fuck knows where everything is going to go. Knowing this is our last Christmas makes everything seem harder.

HeyupitsChristmas · 05/12/2021 20:21

I'm in a Christmassy kinda place Xmas Grin

Tree is up
Cake is made
Wreath is made and hung
Presents are wrapped
Cards are posted

BUT...I have been buying presents since the summer because its easier budget wise. I've also got in all the extra food bits (about £30 - £40 of Christmas pudding, shortbread, Quality Street, nuts etc.)

This year, we've focused much more on experiences such as taking DD skating, on walks to find pine cones for the tree, baking and crafts and we're doing something different each week.

This year feels especially Christmassy because of DD - she's seeing all this magic around her, and it's really quite lovely.

Roominmyhouse · 05/12/2021 20:21

Trying! Been ill all week with a horrible sore throat which is now a snotty nose. Because of that I missed a work Christmas lunch and a girls Christmas boozy night out. We’ve half put the Christmas decorations up tonight but half the bulbs had gone on the tree lights so going to have to wait for new ones before I can do the tree.

toomuchfaster · 05/12/2021 20:23

Not at all. Most presents bought, but it feels like a chore this year. Tree is in the house but no decorations up, much to DD's (7yrs old) disappointment. I'll try tomorrow as I need to send some Xmas cards. Decorations feel like a chore too as I will have to put them all away again in a couple of weeks. Was a bit keener at end of November but MIL bought an advent calendar so there was no incentive to get the decorations box down and find our re-fillable one.

RoastPotatoQueen · 05/12/2021 20:23

Little bit. Me and my youngest DC danced to Christmas tunes while putting up the tree earlier, made me chuckle quite a bit.
It's all about the little things with Christmas.

Holothane · 05/12/2021 20:24

Not I’m enjoying my Christmas dvds but nothing else will do presents next week I’ve not even put the advent calendar up the tree will go up Christmas Eve.

MsAwesomeDragon · 05/12/2021 20:25

Not at all. But I'm not a massively christmassy any year. This year I haven't bought many presents, none of us can think what we want. What little I have bought is still in the shopping bags/delivery boxes rather than being wrapped.
We're having a "best decorated classroom" competition between forms at school and all I can think about is how much extra work that is, for very little benefit. The kids will do a lot of the decorating, but I'll have to take it all down come January. We will only see the benefit of it for a week, so it doesn't seem remotely worth it. Bah, humbug!!

FuzzyPenguin · 05/12/2021 20:26

Very much! Christmas is a big thing in our house we look forward to it all year and start getting excited when we have our 100 day countdown.
It really kicked in last weekend when the first advent candle got lit at church. Presents are wrapped weekends are full of plans, most of the people we know and love have had Covid the last few weeks so we are making the most of everything while we can.
