To ask how I can smell better?

This is really embarrassing but recently I've noticed I've started to smell bad. I used to not need to shower everyday but now I'm aware of an odour part way through the day even after a shower. It's not normal BO - I use a good quality antiperspirant and the smell doesnt seem to come from my armpits.
I cant really work out exactly where the smell comes from, although it is more noticeable when I'm wearing a skirt or dress with tights and does seem worse if I'm hot. No one has commented on it but I'm so aware of it.

Can anyone suggest what I can do to combat it? I shower every morning and as well as antiperspirant I use a body spray/perfume.

Hormonal fluctuations in menopause have definitely affected my personal level of smelliness

Can you still get otc test kits to see if you have BV?

squee123 · 05/12/2021 19:36

You'd be better with a reusable fabric panty liner changed half way through the day as they let things breathe better than the disposable ones.

It could be your clothes. You can get this weird thing with them where they smell fresh when you put them on, and then as the day goes on and your body warms warms up they start to smell. I'd rinse all your clothes in vinegar and then wash them with bio on as hot a temp as the care label allows to eliminate any lingering bacteria.

@NynaeveSedai

If tights made you sweat and skirts help you air then why would you wear a panty liner which is partly plastic?

Panty liners will collect any discharge that can smell after a few hours. 10 hours in a pair of knickers will often result in smelly knickers whether they are cotton or otherwise. The reason she smells worse in tights and skirts is that there is more air flow around the genitals so the smell is easier to detect.

If you have smelly knickers, there is something wrong. Discharge should not smell.

Is your belly button smelly? Maybe put a finger in to check?
Fuck. Mine is Shock

Fucking right!

Wash with real, good quality soap and a flannel. I recommend pears.

Then wash again with the soap and a flannel.

Then use medicated deodorant. Go to the docs for this.

If it's your foof, use a disposable panty liner and change frequently. Change pants in the day if necessary.

CovidPassQuestion · 05/12/2021 19:38

I was going to suggest thrush in the navel too! Slightly more politely though Grin
Sudocreme works wonders if it is that.

Discharge is normal and natural and certainly doesn’t and shouldn’t smell. If you have such smelly discharge that you need to change a panty liner twice a day then you need to see a doctor.

Air flow around genitals making smells easier to detect. WTAF.

CovidPassQuestion · 05/12/2021 19:40

If you're larger, it could also be thrush in other crevices also, such as under norks, between tummy rolls, etc. The skin might look sore and red if you have a full length mirror to look in.

rifling · 05/12/2021 19:41

I think it's the perimenopause.

EatSleepRantRepeat · 05/12/2021 19:43

Discharge does have a smell, ask most straight men and lesbians and they'll know the musky odour I'm talking about. Plus it's an area of the body that tends to sweat and get on clothing, especially if there is no hair there. It's if the smell changes, eg goes vinegary, fishy or the colour of texture of the discharge changes that you should get checked.

Firstbornunicorn · 05/12/2021 19:45

Another suggestion for belly button! Really easy to resolve if that’s what it is.

I have seen a doctor (when I had my smear) there is nothing wrong with me but there is a noticeable smell after a few hours. I don't need to be told there is something wrong with my body! The same way your pits or your hair or your feet get musty throughout the day, so do your genitals.

WTAF yourself. It's basic biology! That's how smells circulate. It's called osmosis :)

I’m very familiar with the smell of a vagina, merci beaucoup

It has a scent up close but if your discharge smells so bad people can smell it outside of getting their nose in your crotch then you have an issue

Yes! Penises also get smelly by the end of the day. It's a sweaty body part that is covered by tight clothing.

Peri menopause has done strange things to me including making me smell! It affects the part of my chest between my boobs and it properly smells of BO just hours after showering which then makes my clean bra smell too. I have the tiniest boobs and no meeting of skin in the middle so no reason for it to be sweaty.

Ponoka7 · 05/12/2021 19:56

It is peri menopause. Once you are through the menopause it gets better. But your smell etc does change permanently. Unsented Mitchum is the most effective. I started layering the Body shop midnight jasmine.

Yep, me too. The skin between my boobs has started to smell since the menopause... (and my boobs don't meet in the middle either)!

Try drinking more water.

GhostCurry · 05/12/2021 20:20

Discharge absolutely does smell. I hate it when women says that it doesn’t. Of course it does, as does any emission from any orifice.

Or have you tried halving an apple, tying it with red thread, and burying it on the night of a full moon at a crossroads? Grin
