Food delivery drivers not delivering to the door

I am currently self-isolating and cannot leave the house. I am also struggling to get a supermarket order. I have no food although I have money in my account.

No issues, I’ll order a pizza. About 40 minutes later the pizza delivery driver rings my bell to be let in to the gate (it’s a gated community). I then waited for him to buzz again when he got to my block of flats. Then I guess I expected him to knock on my door and then leave the pizza at my door. He didn’t come. I called the pizza delivery company and they told me the drivers were not allowed to enter housing estates “because of Covid”. So I was expected to leave my house, leave my block of flats and walk 100 years to the entrance to my housing estate.

Obviously I can’t because I am self-isolating and could get into trouble. AIBU or is this completely ridiculous?

It depends where you live I guess - I had friends that worked for dominos when they were at uni and there were definitely blocks of flats where they wouldn't get out of the car to deliver - they would call the person that ordered the pizza when they arrived, who would then come to the car to pay them and get the pizza!

I get this lot mainly Amazon we have big signs saying don’t leave parcels by main front door. They buzz flat you let them in, you wait and wait and wait for them to come up to your landing and ring again. Nothing. Then you have scramble get dressed find shoes/keys/grab kids walk down hallway wait for lift etc hope it’s not been stolen by time you get there. Amazon sent you email saying it’s been handed to resident and there is no way you can say it’s not. Had two parcels last week ended up open with contents on floor some kind person brought it up and wasn’t exciting enough to be nicked.

When I lived in flats you always had to go to the main door. Also supermarkets only delivered to the Main door. There is an exemption for essentials which covers going to the communal door

Why? If you are on 5th floor and no lift I get that but if there is step free access and a lift and they have weeks worth shopping on trolley? What’s reason?

Give them a break! These folk are rushed off their feet as it is. We live up a gated lane and collect all our deliveries from the bottom gate, including the supermarket shop.

I have this issue with shopping. I am on a first floor flat and have RA. They won't bring it up the stairs and sometimes I can't manage carrying it. Cannot wait to move.

The onus is really on the delivery company to have realistic timelines. Maybe if more people complain they'll get their shit together instead of underpaying and squeezing drivers

They’re probably running late because no one has numbers on the door or a light so you can see where you’re going. Or the previous customer just couldn’t be bothered answering the door so they then have to phone them and they don’t answer the phone because they don’t recognise the number. Can you tell I deliver food?

Gosh, that is surprising. I order my shopping from Sainsburys and Ocado, and their drivers always bring it to my front door.

If they can’t deliver to flat Because oh dear no time. Yet happy to wait at door while you carry up 12 bags of shopping 3 at a time. Perfect sence

I use to live in a flat and drivers wouldnt usually come up so it depends where you live, one I buzzed in and when he got to my door he said I owed him £2 extra for coming up, I didn’t even have the extra change?! I paid online, he said I owe it to him next time I order so I just didn’t order again.

TurnUpTurnip · 05/12/2021 10:54

I usually had issues with online delivery as the drivers was really rude about bringing it up, one I opened the door to and said hello and he slammed my bags down and said “I think I’ll catch my breath first!” But then it was a 3rd floor with no lift...
