To ask how many after school activities do your kids do and how much do they cost?

Just that really. My DC is in reception and already most of his class have classes after school/at the weekend (gymnastics, football, music, ballet etc.)

Covid stopped classes for ages so it sort if went from my mind and I've not put DC in any classes yet, but just hoping to get an idea about what sort of classes kids do, how many different classes, how often, and costs per week per child?

Thanks

None, my son went to a football club after school I had to pay the full cost upfront he went twice and decided he didn’t like it and didn’t want to go again not signing him up to anything else now!

Ricepops · 04/12/2021 22:51

BTW, we couldn't handle much more than the above as DC are already in after school care 3 days per week. Swimming and gymnastics are at the weekend. Spanish is at lunchtime. Football is straight after school. Sometimes feel guilty that we don't have more flexibility.

elliejjtiny · 04/12/2021 22:54

Mine didn't do anything in reception year. They all started doing piano lessons in year 1 which pil pay for, not sure how much it costs. Older 2 do an after school club each week which is free. My 3 in primary school had all their after school clubs cancelled because of covid and nothing has started up again yet.

Smartiepants79 · 04/12/2021 22:55

Mine are 8 an 11 know. They do piano, badminton, swimming and brownies/guides.
Youngest also plays football.
It sounds like quite a lot when I write it out. They both get at least 2 evenings a week free. They both seem to really love everything they do.
At the age of your child I think we were only doing swimming. Maybe some gymnastics?

CovidFreeChristmas · 04/12/2021 22:56

2DCs: Trampolining, Gymnastics, tap, ballet, cheerleeding, wildlife club, swimming, football, goalkeeper training, rugby, parkour.
All free though school.

Plus horse riding: £300 a term and youth theatre: £250 annual membership

CovidFreeChristmas · 04/12/2021 22:57

In reception I think they both did swimming and kung-fu and that was more than enough.

DD1 (age 6)
Rainbows - paid by the term last term was c£30 but was a short term.
Karate - £20 a month
Swimming - £20 a month
Gymnastics - paid by term, next term is longer so £50.

DD2 (age 3)
Karate - £20 per month
Swimming - £17 per month

As long as we can afford it (and I know we are very fortunate that we can) I insist on swimming for safety. I also encouraged Karate for focus, exercise etc but also for self defence. The world seems to be getting less safe for girls so I'd like them to be as prepared as possible.

DS football £25 a month
DD & DS swimming lessons £52 a month
DD stage school (she has a scholarship so £0)

cadburyegg · 04/12/2021 22:59

My Y2 DS does

  • swimming lessons £140 per term
  • beavers £12 per month
  • sports asc £21 per half term

He has only started activities in the last 9 months or so really, when he was in YR there wasn't much for his age and also he found school tiring enough, then covid hit. In Y1 there was nothing on due to covid until beavers started again in the spring

Fartymcfart · 04/12/2021 23:00

My DD is 11 now. She did swimming lessons for a couple of years when she was younger. She tried loads of other activities, the only thing that stuck was dancing, and she still does that - two classes every Saturday morning costing £34 a month.

pumpkinposey · 04/12/2021 23:16

DC1

Horse riding - £30pw

DC2
Swimming - £45pcm

Ilikecheeseontoast · 04/12/2021 23:21

Two twins are in reception and so t do anything g as they’re too tired from school! We walk there and back which is 30 mins each way and when we get home we just play, talk, read stories, watch TV etc. Weekends are spent seeing family, going to the park, spending time together. I feel guilty that they doNt so more but I also work, and have a baby so not sure how we’d fit it all in!

Ilikecheeseontoast · 04/12/2021 23:22

My twins not ‘two twins!’ Please don’t judge spelling or grammar. My phone has gone bonkers!

UnLunDun · 05/12/2021 06:18

Cubs £35 a term

DD (2)
Swimming £5 a session
Toddler sense £7 a class

MinnieMountain · 05/12/2021 06:46

Nothing at that age as he wasn’t interested.

Now he’s in year 3 he does eco/science and street dance in after school clubs. I doubt he’d agree to anything not at school.

Mnusernc · 05/12/2021 06:50

I hadn't added it up before but it's £650 a month for 2 kids Shock!

DockOTheBay · 05/12/2021 06:54

My daughter is in year R and does swimming on a Saturday morning which is £23 per month (although we have to pay every month even though the lessons are only term time so it works out at about £7 per lesson)

I can't really imagine putting her in for any more clubs at the moment. She is so tired and I feel like we hardly see her. I would like her to do Rainbows when she turns 5 and her name is on the waiting list so we will see.
