Not to put a tree up this year?

DS is 4. I really can't be bothered this year, we've got a lot going on. Prem baby in NICU too and I just don't feel festive. Lots going on.

DS doesn't understand Christmas, but might be interested in a bit of sparkle. But I think he can just enjoy someone else's tree to look at, and the many many of them outside the village houses nearby. He would also try to ruin the tree too and I'm not sure I can take on the stress

Both sets of our parents think it's VV unreasonable!

Thanks all Smile

I am going to buy a little one he can pull down and take the decs off, just to ease my mind. The thought of him being disappointed makes me feel sick to my stomach so he must have something, even if I am 99.9% sure he has no understanding of it at all. He's a very happy boy

Look forward to clearing it all at 3am now Grin

Op there are nice felt ones that would be ideal for children with SEN

We have a felt tree that hangs on the wall. The decorations are velcro so can be moved around, kids love it and it is so easy to pop up.

Cant you not get a small 3ft fibre optic tree to put on a table for your son.. I know how hard it is this time of year and ynbu on how you feel due to your baby being in icu but you also have another child who will believe in santa, try to give him something of a normal xmas, trust me it is hard.

I got DD a little one to decorate herself at about that age. I'd thought we would make decorations, but she immediately hung her favourite toys on it, together with a necklace and a bracelet. It was great!

You should put up a tree.

Welcometothejingles · 04/12/2021 21:41

Just get a wall mounted Christmas tree like this one:

wall mounted sparkling Christmas tree

He doesn't believe in Santa or know who he is (as far as I'm away anyway!)

I think he’d like it, he’s 4, he doesn’t understand your worries (even if he were NT). It’s a little bit of joy for a little boy. I hope your baby is ok OP.

Instead of a tree, buy a light projector and he can have fun watching the lights move round the room. Or stick some flashing fairy lights on your window sill. Give him some tinsel to run around with. We have a new 7ft tree this year that I love. DS would rather play with tinsel and set the lights to strobe light setting Grin

AffableApple · 06/12/2021 12:21

He's 4. He won't remember the one Christmas you didn't put a tree up. There are plenty of Christmas trees around this year in his world. Pop some tinsel and lights up if you want to. Ignore the naysayers. Hope everything goes well with your littlest one Flowers
