Hello
My daughter recently had a UTI treated with antibiotics. A couple of months ago she had symptoms of a UTI. The first urine dip showed no signs of infection. Symptoms seemed to disappear. A week and a half later she was saying it hurt when seeing so took her for another dip. She was given antibiotics but when the culture came back it showed ‘mixed growth’. I am concerned about the length on this occasion it took to get antibiotics (a week a half) but not sure if it was an actual UTI. The dr doesn’t seem to think so. I am worried about any potential scarring to her kidneys and I am thinking about it a lot…

Lots of helpful comments and the NICE guidelines are the best place to look at.

My DS problems are of the type that cause renal scarring/damage, and I would believe that if your daughter had such issues it would have been picked up by now, through more issues when younger (she is 3 yes?) Or prenatal screening possibly.

As renal scarring after uti is worrying you so much I can offer my other side of the story. I have had over 60 utis in the past 5 years, completely unrelated to my sons issues. I have NO renal scarring or signs of kidney issues in my renal bloods (when not in active infection). But again this frequency issue is uncommon and due to another illness I have.Utis alone do not usually cause scarring, as others have pointed out its usually an issue of urine backflow into the kidneys, from blockage or structural malformation.

Are there renal problems in your family? I know it is awful when children are unwell but you do seem very "fearful" of what could be a common childhood/female issue. I am in no way trying to be disparaging. I have spent night after night on the Internet trying to find medical answers.....whether that does me any good is probably best not answered Grin
