School illness

I've name changed as this is outing.

2 weekends in a row my DD has been ill and various days off school in between through UTI and now covid symptoms (awaiting PCR result) She also has earache with it as well as the high temp. Doctor says viral which is why we went for PCR to rule that out. Just getting so fed up. Want to keep her at home and wrap her in cotton wool to avoid all this unhappiness.

I know a UTi isn't contagious but since she started school in mid September she's also had colds and D&V bugs and all sorts. I haven't renewed one of her activities as she's missed so much due to illness I didn't feel like paying for another term. I fill her with vitamins and sambucol everyday. Her favourite foods are fruit and veg and she only drinks water. She's active and perfect weight etc etc etc.

There's nothing else we can do to try and avoid her catching stuff but she is anyway. It's just getting quite hard to cope with let alone the time off work and the comments from friends and family. AIBU to keep her home til Christmas?! I know I am but would love to!

This has been our worst term ever illness wise. My kids have been home so much, missed so much of their activities etc. I really sympathise.

I know its probably because of lockdowns etc that's why it's so bad now but it constant.

Neither of my sons has been swimming for 5-6 weeks. Due to illnesses of both, half term, and me getting sick. Honestly what the fuck - that’s so much money down the drain.

That’s without the exhaustion of parenting sick children, being sick yourself, all the PCRs

Not fun

Dd has been a bit like this recently. She's usually a pretty healthy child but had a few viruses since September - 4 covid tests too which were all negative. Like your Dd she eats a healthy diet. It's just one of those things I think op. Often when they catch one thing their immune system is prone to picking up other viruses - especially this time of year!

Ds is autistic, very limited diet, doesn't eat any fruit or veg or dairy products and cannot get multivitamins in him! Despite his limited diet he never gets ill, it really is just one of those things!

Have you tried vitamin D supplements? Lots of people are low in it , especially in winter and there is evidence that low vitamin D can make you prone to more illness

You can acti

Looking forward to another weekend of wasted ££ here for activities getting into the £££ at this point. Wish i had cancelled the activities in a way we could have had a much more luxurious Xmas. Sick but with more present anyway

My DC were like this in pre-school. It was constant. However, now they're older they aren't often ill. I wouldn't keep them off - you're just prolonging the building of the immune system. Lockdown hasn't helped as they would have been exposed earlier.

I won't actually keep her off but part of me wants to! She does take loads of vitamins maybe some extra vitamins D too won't hurt? Is there a problem with giving her more than the recommended daily amount?
