To not wake DS up?

DS is 9.
He's never been a poorly kid, even when he had chicken pox he had a handful of spots and was bouncing round the house like a loon after a day of fever!

But he puked in the car on Wednesday, which he hasn't done since he was a baby, and was lethargic and a bit "sad" yesterday, which is really out of character for him.

We've got other stuff going on, his Dad has left and hasn't spoken to him for well over a week (and hasn't paid promised child support but that's a whole other thread tbh!) , we are going to have to move house to somewhere tiny and shitty soon (though luckily not before xmas). And I didn't know how the fuck I was going to afford any sort of xmas until my mum very kindly offered to give me money for presents/nice food etc.

We had a weekend at my Aunt and Uncles place this last weekend, they live in Brighton and very, very kindly paid our train tickets and put us up/paid for dinners etc. He got to meet his teenage cousin and they both got on like a house on fire. My brother (who DS absolutely adores and looks up to) was there with his girlfriend who is also lovely, they took him to the pier and payed for loads of arcade games which I definitley couldn't afford to do. It was fantastic time, but I'm feeling like it might have been a lot for a little kid who's going through a lot right now anyway??
(As an aside I have never been more grateful for lovely family than I am right now!!)

Anyway it's nearly 1pm and he's still gently snoring away in his nest of teddies, again really out of character for him, he's normally up with the birds!
He's home ed at the moment so no worries about plans/schools etc. And we have no plans until a party at my cousins house on Sunday.

I should just let him sleep right?

He looks so peaceful right now, feels the perfect temperature, and I think if his body is telling him to sleep then that's what he should do?

I'm only asking because I spoke to my friend earlier and she was horrified I was letting him sleep so long!

Christ, let the poor mite sleep if he needs it. What's wrong with your grump of a friend.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time at the moment, sending you positive thoughts for a fabulous 2022

I'd let him sleep too so long as he is rousable. He's clearly unwell and sleep is the body's way of healing.

shouldistop · 03/12/2021 13:02

I'd probably try to rouse him and give him a drink of water just to put my mind at ease but then I'd let him go back to sleep.

Definitely let him sleep. Only reason to wake would be easier bedtime later but given circumstances I would prioritise him sleeping now.

Good luck with everything. Flowers

I’d let him sleep but check on him regularly. He may be sickening for something. The weekend sounds lovely and not too much at all. It’s much more likely he’s got a virus and is sleeping to fight it off, especially with the puking and being lethargic yesterday. I’m sorry to hear what you’re both going through and hope things improve very soon. He’s obviously got a lovely mum and a kind and supportive family. All the best Flowers

He’s going through a lot of emotions his body needs time to heal. Let him sleep

Danikm151 · 03/12/2021 13:09

Let him sleep. There’s been a lot of emotional upheaval for him too.
Sleep is a great medicine

My daughter is the same as your son, always fill of life. On Wednesday she fell asleep on the sofa at about 6.30 - unheard of - and I had to Carry her to bed as I couldn't wake her long enough to walk and she slept through solid til the next day when she woke with a headache. Seems a mix of a mild virus, busy week and general December tiredness. I don't think it was too much at all for your son in that it was great at the time. If it's left him a little tired alongside a winter bug then a couple of days rest and some extra sleep is exactly what he needs. In these circumstances he'd probably have a day or 2 off school so I'd give any schooling a break and let him just chill.

Let him sleep, everything else can wait.
Sleep , is very important for the mind and body.

MatildaTheCat · 03/12/2021 13:40

If he’s really been asleep continuously since yesterday evening I would definitely rouse him to check on him. He must need a drink/ wee at least. At worst he could be unconscious (unlikely but possible).

If he’s been intermittently waking and snoozing I’d let him carry on.
