What to get a female in her 30s ? (Secret Santa)

Hello

In the work secret santa I’ve got someone I don’t know very well.

She’s in her 30s and has young children. I’m not sure whether she drinks.

The limit is £20.

Can anyone give me any ideas on what she might actually like / use ?

Thanks

What the fuck is “a female in her 30s”?

Who said that? The OP never

GetTheFlockOutOfHere · 02/12/2021 23:02

@LizzieMacQueen

Gloves, moleskin diary, wooden keyring.

Things I would avoid. Bayliss & Harding gift set -- lost count of how many times I've had these. And I think I'd avoid anything too personal like earrings.

Bayliss and Harding. Ooooh, I HATE them!

Oops just seen that was the title of the thread. Yes. Very strange.

The OP said it in her thread title.

But I can't see a problem with it.

Whoops cross post!

ThinWomansBrain · 02/12/2021 23:05

well at least you didn't write lady Grin

Is she well groomed? spa voucher
Are you allowed to buy alcohol?
Waitrose have a champagne deal under £20, so all the other supermarkets prrobably do too.

ArialAnna · 02/12/2021 23:05

Just get her some nice chocolate. In the unlikely event she doesn't like it, at least she can easily regift it at Christmas

MsFogi · 02/12/2021 23:06

Something nice from Oliver Bonas or similar and include the gift receipt.

RockinHorseShit · 02/12/2021 23:13

Bayliss and Harding. Ooooh, I HATE them!

SIL loves them & gets me a set every year, because she guesses I will love them too. I hate themConfused

Though come lockdown, & not getting out to lush etc, we were very grateful for the last bath we had set gathering dust at the back of a cupboard 😂

RockinHorseShit · 02/12/2021 23:15

I agree that a Chilli bottle is a good idea & the right price too. You can get them personalised & lots of designs to choose from. Look at what she's wearing, accessories etc too to get an idea of her taste & find one that sits her

Unihorn · 02/12/2021 23:16

I match your description. I hate candles, bath shit, makeup spa-related stuff etc. Do you have any idea what sort of things she likes? I'd be happy with chocolate or an Amazon voucher honestly.

mommydragonn · 02/12/2021 23:21

Does she like to cook? Then a healthy cook book? I saw a book for recipes for Buddha bowls. In our office online secret Santa, we can see each other's wish list. 3 women on there had picked cook books. If she likes makeup and beauty, then some lovely creams. Small box of chocolates included. If she likes to drink, a small bottle of gin.

Forgetaboutme · 02/12/2021 23:22

I'm a female in my 30s with 2 kids :D

If it was me I'd want:

Coffee mug like a costa one or something and nice coffees / teas (you can see from work if she likes that stuff)
A snoodie from primark
Lush gift set
Pandora item (again can u see if she has links or pandora type bracelet)
Nice warm gloves
A woodwick candle Grin

This stuff would make me happy

bethclark553 · 02/12/2021 23:22

Aroma diffuser?
Satin pillowcase?
Mini Clinique gift set? X

Boofoof · 02/12/2021 23:44

Another female early 30s here.

If it was me:. I really like the idea of a good quality reusable water bottle, such as chillies, mentioned by another poster. Other ideas:

-Gloves (I love the type that have a flap that turns them from fingerless gloves to mittens, accesorize do these)
-For glasses wearers- the spray stuff that treats your glasses to stop them steaming up when wearing a mask!
-Audible voucher
-A book gift box, like from books that matter
-A game for 2 people, such as poetry for Neanderthals, exploding kittens etc.

I would personally avoid hand creams/ bath stuff type gifts or earrings, or any chocolate with nuts as you never know what allergies people may have. I also hate those microwaveable wheat bags/ animal things that are a popular gift, as they are often lavender scented which can be a big migraine trigger!

StrawberryFever · 02/12/2021 23:47

I am a female in my 30s I would appreciate good walking socks, an M&S/John Lewis voucher - or one for a coffee/sandwich shop near my office. Or a dishwasher proof water bottle/coffee mug. Something from Oliver Bonas with a gift receipt would also be warmly received (actually you could also go to John L/M&S and pick something and include a gift receipt then effectively you're giving them a gift voucher but it looks like you've put more effort in)

I would not appreciate a candle/diffuser (I value my lungs), scarf (I have already been given more scarves than any reasonable person could ever hope to need), bath stuff (unless it's designed for sensitive skin), some fancy water bottle I have to hand wash or chocolate (I already receive too much of that from other people).

I'd also like it if you noticed the specific hand cream I use on my desk and the type of tea I drink/snacks I eat at work and made me a little care package of those (yes they're basics and I can and do buy them for myself regularly but that means I've got an extra 15 pounds I can use to treat myself with something I actually want when I want it and you're saving me having to remember to buy them/bring them into work next time)

maddening · 03/12/2021 00:02

A beautiful bauble

Voucher for treatment or experience

greenlynx · 03/12/2021 00:05

I wouldn’t buy any make up, skincare or smelly candles in case of allergies. I would buy alcohol or chocolates because they are easier to use/regift. Or maybe fancy tea or hot chocolate from somewhere like hotel chocolate or whatever you’ve got near by.
Personalized make up bag from Amazon with her name on it (very handy for traveling)

greenlynx · 03/12/2021 00:09

And I agree with @StrawberryFever :
no to scarves but yes to nice socks, John Lewis usually has interesting choices.

LittleMissTake · 03/12/2021 00:15

Lighthearted

Just get an Amazon voucher if you don’t know her well - other classic gifts too risky!

For example:

Booze - possibly teetotal
Chocolate - could be allergic to it
Smellies - could have eczema
Tea/coffee - could be is caffeine free
Scarf - see eczema above
Candle - could be covert pyromaniac
Book - might not read
Classic movie CDs from last decade - seen ‘em before
Faux fur hot water bottle - potentially lethal if electric blanket/heated throw aficionado

The list goes on .

CraazyCatLady · 03/12/2021 00:15

I really like the battery powered glitter show scenes that are around £20. They're so lovely for Christmas, but something you probably wouldn't buy for yourself.

Hairyfriend · 03/12/2021 00:28

Some things I've received in secret santas and really liked. In some cases, they were people I barely knew.

  • Earrings with a brushed, glittery effect and a slightly drop. Perfect for Christmas parties or evenings out and I still wear them now 5yrs on.
  • Large box of chocolates
  • Set of 2, large mugs. I love a decent sized mug!
  • One of those extra long, thin hot water bottles you can sit over your shoulders, or wrap around your back or pelvic area.
  • Lovely pen and note book (work related, so the least favourite of the above)

All the above could be re-gifted if she was vegan, doesn't have pierced ears or otherwise wouldn't use the gift.

PinkKecks · 03/12/2021 00:33

Boots have some nice gift sets - Soap and Glory is my secret santa go-to for that demographic.

My ideal secret Santa gift to receive would be 20 Terry's chocolate oranges (currently £1 in asda) or £20 worth of jaffa cakes.

I hate candles as gifts!

Marvellousmadness · 03/12/2021 01:04

A pp mentioned her husband getting her a candle! a candle... for every occasion ? Not really creative or thoughtful but I guess you dont mind so her dh is lucky 😅
Maybe look on her fb/Instagram to see what she likes (like hobby wise?)

And otherwise a voucher. Can't ever go wrong with that Smile

Please dont buy the female a scented candle op. They are either a hit or the biggest fail.

Marvellousmadness · 03/12/2021 01:05

Wtf why are my paragraphs mixed up. Anyway, never mind
