Second opinion from fertility clinic worth it?

Has anyone ever done this? Had a second opinion from fertility clinic and had different diagnosis?

I had a scan by a doctor and was told I have some issues but just wait and see what happens. It's now been over six months (2 years total on and off trying including two miscarriages) and I'm not pregnant.

Thinking it might be worth getting a second opinion?

I have had two episodes in last three months (not when menstruating) where I've had really excruciating stomach problems one time it kept me up for three hours I couldn't walk. I'm worried something weird is happening to my insides since TTC.

Worth exploring that issue further. Could be endometriosis which can cause bad period pain

Joban · 03/12/2021 01:35

What were the issues and did they give you a time frame for follow up?

It’s always worth getting a second opinion for peace of mind if nothing else.
I would also contact your GP for a check up Re: the stomach pain in the meantime.
I’m sorry to hear of your losses, I do wish you luck TTC. Flowers

It could be anything or nothing, but that pain and the fertility challenges could be endo so it's worth a second opinion as endo can't be diagnosed from a scan, and a lap and dye is needed.

Definitely get a second opinion from a fertility clinic. What are the issues? What kind of dr did you see? Just a regular ob gyn?

daisydoh · 03/12/2021 08:30

@BabyOnBoard90 that's thing the pain wasn't at the time of my period it was mid month you see

@Joban no time spans given the fertility specialist (it was a private one) just said carry on TTC and come back to me when you're pregnant?! He said that because I have conceived had losses so he said you must be fine if managing to conceive

Could be ovarian cysts, can be so painful at ovulation

daisydoh · 03/12/2021 08:32

@RedSquirrelsAreAwesome thank you so much. I tried to forget about the pains but I'm now thinking is everything perhaps linked. I'm just worried by insides are falling apart and decaying to be honest 😩

@Circlesandtriangles @readingismycardio the issues I've had are two losses basically - a few months into TTC I've fallen pregnant but I've lost both.

We think we may have identity the reason for the first loss - an underlying condition I have and the second possibly Covid as I had it at the time.

I just didn't want to carry on having losses if there's an issue so I went to see the specialist.

He did sperm tests on DH which were normal.

He did blood test and internal womb camera on me and said I have a slightly low egg count at 17, also he identified endermetrioiss and andenomyosis but said if the endermetrioris isn't causing problems don't worry about it.

If I'm honest I feel if I hand not conceived he might have been worried about the issues but on the basis I have (albeit lost them) he seemed to think I should just crack on trying again and come back to him when I'm next pregnant for some hormone treatments to thicken the womb lining as prevention for the losses.

He also picked up fibroids on the camera scan

Adenomyosis could give rise to those mid-cycle pains you described earlier.

Fibroid and Endo can both also increase risk of miscarriage (from my understanding).

Perhaps it's too early to confirm for certain the extent this may influence your fertility as unfortunately some healthy women can have back to back miscarriages. I'm assuming your age may be factored too by your doctor (they tend to have less urgency if you are young).

Second opinion wouldn't hurt, if anything may provide greater clarity. I would want to understand from your doctor if there's any treatment that can help hold the pregnancies - like progesterone or something.

Can you afford to go private? I believe the NHS reset the clock on investigating after any loss, eg 6 months if you're over 35, not from when you start from ttc but from when you have the loss that 6 Months begins again.
