30 hour free child care

So we are applying for the 30 hour free childcare. On the gov website it states you can get 30 hour as well as receiving tax credits.
Whilst filling in the information, I then got on the page that states, if my application is accepted then tax credits will stop without being able to reinstate it again, to select yes or no to if I accept that. This leaves me confused, conflicting information on their website?
Can anyone shed some light please

No I don't think you can have both it's one or the other. You need to work out which will work out better for you. Also it is funded childcare and the provider can charge for meals and consumables on top of the 30 hours.

Work out how much you get in childcare tax credits vs how much you'd get in tax free childcare.

You can't claim both bits of childcare funding for the same childcare.

That is the tax free childcare care page, not the 30 hours. Go back and have another look, many people get caught out there. You can have the 30 hours and tax credits.

But it states here I can?

@Faevern just seen your post. Do you mean you can or can't?

This is the first time and am really clueless how it works.
I know I can be charged for lunch hour etc, but essentially will I be getting 30 hours that am not paying for?

You can have both.

However in the application it asks do you want to claim tax free childcare, that is not the same as 30 hours, some people think it is. However if you tick no the page about tax credits stopping isn’t relevant and the application for 30 hours continues.

Using 30 hours funded childcare will reduce the tax credits award.

The 30 hours is term time it’s less if you spread it over the year. You can claim tax credits for the rest of the hours if you use them.

Faevern · 02/12/2021 19:41

Yea it will @nannynick but you can still have both if you use more than the 30 hours offer pays for.

StormyTeacups · 02/12/2021 19:42

It is tax free childcare you can't have as well. You can have tax credits, but obviously can only put in the new reduced cost when applying

nannynick · 02/12/2021 19:43

I think 30 hours funded childcare is 1140 hours per year. The funding in many areas is less than it costs the childcare provider to provide the care and with next year's minimum wage rise and NI levi, we could see more childcare providers going out of business. So please discuss with your childcare provider, so you can get as much funded hours as you can whilst still keeping them in business.
