Not an aibu in the least but for polls and traffic, help a mama out pretty please

Baby boy born this week is still nameless…
Dh loves the name Sami
I prefer Aiden

(Both are Muslim names just in case anyone is wondering why not Samuel)

YABU- call him Sami
Yanbu- call him Aiden.

If it swings the vote in my favour, DH missed the birth as he was our childcare for our toddler and it was ouchy

Aiden

Pemba · 02/12/2021 17:05

They are both nice names, about equally nice. (Sorry, I know not helpful).

Always thought Aiden was an Irish name, interesting.

Kanfuzed123 · 02/12/2021 19:55

@ShowOfHands

Love Sami. Aiden is not in the same league.

I had two v difficult labours and deliveries but names were decided between us. I don't think it's a bargaining chip tbh.

Of course not! I was just joking around on MNs not actually using it as a bargaining chip to get my own way xx

Sami from me.
Or you could go Samiaiden middle name and surname.

Or even hypenate them.

NeverChange · 02/12/2021 22:03

I prefer Aiden, it works for both a child and an adult.

Sami is lovely for a while but I suspect the I will be dropped in layer years.

ApolloandDaphne · 02/12/2021 22:07

I love Sami. I have a Finnish nephew who is Sam but is called Sami and I really love it. He is a cool and wonderful young man.

RabbitFooFoo · 02/12/2021 22:16

I prefer Aiden, lovely name.

curlycat · 02/12/2021 22:19

I have an Aiden who is 17 now so I obviously love the name but I will say you'll spent the rest of your life saying Aiden with an E everytime your're asked for his name😂

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/12/2021 22:25

Aiden - because Sami does sound like the little boys name Sammy, short for Samuel.

StoneofDestiny · 02/12/2021 22:28

Aiden - it's a name that grows with a child to adulthood.
Sami sounds like a kids name and always will.

DemBonesDemBones · 02/12/2021 22:36

I much prefer Sami, but I think the person that gave birth gets final name say Wink

MintLampShade · 02/12/2021 22:37

I adore Sami.
Aiden just sounds like one of the many Cayden, Jayden, Brayden, Hayden - really don't like any of those.

stingofthebutterfly · 02/12/2021 22:49

Personally, I think Aiden sounds like the chavvier name (sorry). Sami is ok, he can always shorten it to Sam when he's older if he feels it's too childish, but it seems to suit Muslim adults to me.

@IncompleteSenten

They're both nice. Can you use both of them? Sami Aiden sounds lovely.
We’re going to use my dads name as a middle name, he died when I was 6 months pregnant with the currently unnamed baby boy xx

Are you planning more kids? Sounds ridiculous, but I think Aiden sounds like an older bother’s name, so would go with naming first born Aiden, second born Sami.

Not saying I prefer the name Aiden, mind. I’m a bit ‘meh’ about Aiden, whereas I think Sami it is an utterly beautiful name.

Marvellousmadness · 03/12/2021 05:22

Aiden and yaiden and kayden.... terrible names.
It are always a certain "type " of kids with these names Blush well. Where i live that is. It's a very overused name.

XelaM · 03/12/2021 05:42

Definitely Aiden. Sami is a weird spelling. If you must go with Sami, just call him Sam

Justilou1 · 03/12/2021 05:48

I like Sami, but also because Aiden is pretty common.
I wouldn’t call him Sam though. Sami is Sami.
Do you and DH know that the Sami are the Indigenous people of Lapland and Finland? You could also have that link!?! (V.V. Tenuous)

steff13 · 03/12/2021 05:52

Isn't the baby a boy?

Muslim name, not weird.

From the op
"(Both are Muslim names just in case anyone is wondering why not Samuel)"

steff13 · 03/12/2021 05:53

And I prefer Sami. Aiden is pretty common, you don't hear Sami much.

Good point! To be honest, no more kids are planned. 2 will be enough (she says typing feeding at 5:55 am 😴🥱)

Also baby is definitely a boy for those who asked :)

Aiden and Kayden are very different. Aiden is an old Irish name (in the West) and Kayden is American. I've never heard of Yaiden but then I've never met a Kayden or a Jaden so maybe it is a geographical thing.
PooWillyNameChange · 04/12/2021 18:13

I stand corrected, I just googled Kayden and apparently it's Scottish! But I'd said Aiden is more widely accepted as traditional and Kayden not so much.
