Teeth tips

My teeth aren’t in great condition, any tips on how to get them whiter and generally looking a bit better? I’ve seen lots of products online but not sure if any actually work or if they just cause more harm than good?

Crest whitening strips are great, I noticed the difference after about two weeks. I have these ones Because you can't really see my bottom teeth when I smile I used both strips from each pack on the top teeth to save money.

Thank you, I ll give them a try!

Sonicare or oral b toothbrush
Daily use of floss or tepe brushes
Good fluoride toothpaste eg Colgate duraphat
Hygiene appointments at least twice a year,

Thank you. I brush my teeth thoroughly twice a day, don’t drink coffee , red wine or smoke but they just don’t look in great condition and the enamel is wearing away on the front ones which is where they are looking ‘dirty’ even after cleaning

If your enamel is wearing away be careful with crest strips - they can give people super sensitive teeth!!

If your enamel is actually wearing away, the natural part of your tooth will show through and be a bit discoloured - have you seen your dentist? They might be able to offer composite bonding / enamel repair toothpaste etc to help the condition of the tooth 😊 mine did! I got super strong prescribed toothpaste and it's made such a difference.

Arm and Hammer bicarb toothpaste.

I have been using regenerate toothpaste and mouthwash which says it helps to rebuild enamel?

Please don’t use whitening products if you think the enamel is wearing thin. You will be in an awful lot of pain and it could damage your teeth further.
My advice would be regular hygienist appointments and then take advice from a great dentist as to what treatments might improve your teeth.

Dentist for a consultation to see what they can do cosmetically (if you can afford to go down that route)
Hygienist for a deep clean.
I tend to use a sensitive whitening toothpaste a couple of times a week alongside my enamel regeneration type one, which seems to keep the stains down in between hygienist visits. I drink a lot of coffee though so they stain quickly.
Do you clean interdentally and if so in what way?

I'd get a dental check up and ask their advice. When did you last have a scale and polish?

Rainydays55 · 02/12/2021 21:07

I haven’t been to the dentist for the last 18 months because of covid… I’m a bit scared to go now! They stopped the regular check ups and I haven’t tried to book in since , never been a fan of the dentist at all but really want my teeth to look better!

@Rainydays55 don’t put off the dentist! If there is a problem it’s better it’s caught early or it might lead to something bigger.

LuckyAmy1986 · 02/12/2021 21:13

Get an appointment booked in even if it’s ages away

FindingMeno · 02/12/2021 21:15

Definitely book for a dental hygienist appointment and a check up.
