Cleaning the toilet

Aibu to wonder how everyone cleans their toilet. I don't want a brush/no brush argument I get how you clean the bowl and the seat you sit on and the bit underneath but how do you clean all the nooks and crannies around the lid/hinges, mine is all grubby and dusty but I don't know how to clean it properly..

Obviously I meant the toilet seat, not the entire toilet!

Maireas · 01/12/2021 19:50

@NetballHoop

I used to work with someone who cleaned hers in the dishwasher. It's probably OK, but I'm not going to try it any time soon.
Several people said that on a previous thread about cleaning toilets.
Maireas · 01/12/2021 19:51

Actually, several people said they put their toilet brushes in the dishwasher as well.

MrsWooster · 01/12/2021 19:57

Loo roll and spray cleaner.

viques · 01/12/2021 19:58

@ChimChimeny

I use disposable anti bac wipes on the seat, cistern, porcelain bit. before doing that I squirt toilet gel around the bowl and then scrub with a brush.
This.

Blast it with a steamer , I was horrified by what came out from under the hinges !! My new bathroom has a quick release seat it’s brilliant.
This is the best way to clean. No chemicals and it lifts all the pee that soaks in that doesn't get removed with chemicals. The smell testifies this. It smells so fresh afterwards. Start from the top and work downwards, then wipe it all off afterwards with a cloth and buff with another/kitchen roll..
Merryoldgoat · 01/12/2021 20:16

I also have a cleaning toothbrush. It’s great for the scale round taps and grout. And I’m no avid cleaner.

MrsLarry · 01/12/2021 20:19

Wipe everywhere with bleach spray and loo roll every day. That way it won't get all dusty and grubby.

fourandtwo · 01/12/2021 20:30

Our bathroom is a wet room which is handy.
I blast it with the shower once a week then steam mop the floor. i thought most seats were easy enough to remove so you can properly clean, but happy to be corrected.

Knockoneofftheshelftowin · 01/12/2021 20:47

Old toothbrush here as well.
A wooden skewer/cocktail stick to poke tissue around the hard to get to areas.

Kuachui · 01/12/2021 21:01

i use a toothbrush and cleaning product as a cleaner. gets right in there

TowandaForever · 01/12/2021 21:02

How do you keep the seat white? Mine is yellowish?!

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 01/12/2021 21:33

I have a few cleaning toothbrushes. I have a baby one for cleaning jewellery, a firm one for cleaning around the toilets, another one for the bathrooms, one for the kitchen, one for the windows.

Cream cleaner and lots of scrubbing as soon as yellow appears
Comfortsex · 01/12/2021 21:36

@slashlover

I use an old toothbrush.
Same. Particularly for the hinges and round the flush. I use a cloth on the rest.
Howshouldibehave · 01/12/2021 21:36

Joke, surely?

Why is that a joke?!

prawntoastie · 01/12/2021 21:37

Toothbrush was nocks and cronies

AdoraBell · 01/12/2021 21:40

I also use spray and a cloth. I have a different problem though, the underside of the seat has become pourers and I can’t get the bloody thing to look clean.

Me too, every set of cleaning supplies has at least one toothbrush for cleaning nooks and crannies - though I don't specifically have one for windows (yet) Grin
Bagelsandbrie · 01/12/2021 21:47

Sponge with a scourer thing on one side and bathroom spray. And then loads of bleach down the actual bowl and a brush!

WrongWayApricot · 01/12/2021 21:50

Put it in the dishwasher with the dog bowls and wellies

Toomanyscentedcandles · 01/12/2021 21:50

I use Dettol spray and a cloth that goes in the washing machine afterwards.

Toomanyscentedcandles · 01/12/2021 21:53

What sort of steamer is recommended? I have never used one.

Crunchymum · 01/12/2021 21:55

And the loo brush? Grin

The pink stuff in a tub,not the spray version is great for cleaning discoloured toilet seats.Leave 5 mins then wipe off with a cleaning wipe,looks new again.
