I don't sell much as I can't deal with it all. But occasionally still use it, a little bit lately as trying to have a sort out before Christmas.

Recently I listed something probably worth £100 altogether new for £30. Someone messaged me and offered me £5. I apologised and said no. I was given abusive message saying she could get it for new cheaper than £30. She couldn't. It was a whole range of VTech toot toot stuff. Loads of it. I said I'd take £25 but she insisted £5. The cars alone are quite expensive.

Another time some thing was sold pending pick up. I hadn't had chance to list it as sold yet (sometimes I don't until actually physically gone) and someone had asked for it. I told them it was sold pending pick up but would let them know otherwise. I was given abusive messages about now I hadn't lost it as sold yet - literally posted the item half hour before and someone I knew had said they would have had it. It just didn't occur to me tbh.

Another time someone repeatedly messaging me asking if I would take a couple quid for something I listed for £20, worth a lot more.

Then asking if I can deliver, asking is fine. But I said no as couldn't for whatever reason. Left with abusive message again.

I've listed free stuff and they ask if you can deliver!

Does anyone else have these issues? Is it just a sense of entitlement some people have 😅

Haven't been selling or buying a lot there because I lots of shite advertised.
As I'm a shoe maniac (shoes is what differentiates us from lower mammals), I get shoe ads a lot.
I see plenty of fake Dr Martens sold as genuine ones, as in "wrong size", "worn only once, didn't fit me", "unwanted present" for lots of money. You can get some really good fakes through Aliexpress (I myself got ones, simply because I will never get Jadons in size 2 in normal life), I thought they will just look like it but they arrived with all the labels etc, like genuine ones (and I have several pairs to compare). I saw them sold for over 120 quid or more.

These people drive me mad. Morons. Local pick up only for large items. Messages interest but says lives 200 miles away so can we reduce the amount of money their petrol will cost 😂

There was a lady on the village selling page the other week. Selling lots of baby things in a yard sale type thing. One woman wanted photos of everything. Another woman couldn't make it so wanted the day changed. One said she'd hoped for more expensive brands! Awful women.

Then there's the free stuff. Woman needs everything for move to new flat... people offer sofas etc to be met by ugh no don't like the colour/style.

I advertised something that was expensive, last year. DH bought if for me but I wasn't keen. I advertised it for less than it cost but still a high price. Lots of would you take less.. ie half! Some begging from people who " just can't afford it but want one" one bloke kept saying he could get it cheaper and wouldn't stop so I blocked him. Sold it to a lovely couple. Full asking price.

People are dicks!

I sold an IKEA unit on marketplace, and the guy that came to pick it up was pretty hot. After he left he sent me a message saying he fancied me and did I fancy a shag sometime Shock. I said no on the basis that I was in a relationship, and he was married. He messaged once in a while repeating his request for about the next 3 years, or just to tell me my new profile pic was hot or whatever. I never responded but it didn’t seem to put him off.

On a nicer note, I desperately needed a suit for an interview, saw a lovely one advertised, only worn once and it was an expensive one, for a fiver. When I went to the collect the lady refused to take any money for it, bless her. Maybe it’s because I had just come from the horse and looked like a tramp in wellies and covered in hay Grin.

Our town does a bulk pick-up day every month. You can put out furniture, old appliances, etc. and they'll take them away. Whenever I have something to get rid of I put it out a day early and almost always someone will take it before the town does. I like this approach because I don't have to have any contact with the person taking it off my hands.

A few months ago we put out a broken exercise bike that wasn't fixable, with a sign on it saying it was broken. It was also partially disassembled. Someone took it anyway, possibly just for the scrap metal value.

Our local councillor used to organised skip days in the area in an attempt to reduce fly tipping. All the streets had a skip delivered and when it was full it would be replaced with another skip and so on up until 4pm. It meant everyone got to clear out their garages etc and neighbours often found uses for what other people had thrown in them.

Sadly me new council doesn’t do this as it would be really useful.

Ignore and block anybody unable to string together a sentence or makes a pathetic offer.

JingleJangler · 01/12/2021 15:24

Went to pick up a toy listed for £25. It smelt strongly of horses, was broken and shabby.Messaged her, explaining that it's broken and could I please return for a refund

Why did you buy it in the first place?

MissConductUS · 01/12/2021 15:35

It is really useful. I put out a lot of child-sized furniture and play items and it was always gone within hours. It was nice to think that other families with young kids could make use of it.

It's really weird thinking that someone selling at £30 will sell at £5, let alone taking massive offence if the seller doesn't agree. I wonder if they'd try that in a supermarket or other shop?

I once had people offering to buy my car secondhand at a price less than half of what I was asking. They seemed genuinely baffled that I wouldn't take it, and kept pushing and pushing. I pointed out to them, I could get more than that just trading it in against a replacement car at a dealer's, but they simply couldn't work out that that meant there was no advantage to me in accepting their offer.

had a couple of people from Lagos after a folding bike...I didn't even return their messages.

This wins the thread and I haven't finished reading it yet !

I've given things away on Freecycle/Trash Nothing. The vast majority of people are polite and honest. I guess I don't have anything sellable which is why I've not had to deal with too much cheeky fuckery/timewasters.

I had a guy collect a small Christmas tree and some decorations a couple of days ago. He was polite and very grateful as he works with disabled children.

I've noticed some real, 'victim' wants from people having a tragedy (sofa bed required for my homeless son who is living with me. Um, so he's not homeless then.) or someone having a tragedy on behalf of some one else: Anyone got an old cd player for a lonely man who likes to listen to Celine Dionne. (Yes, really.)

I've also noticed some really, 'me want' posts. Few words, no please, no thank you. Nothing.

I've had a guy asking inappropriate, personal questions. I blocked him and reported him to the mods and he was blocked from the site.

I've reported someone for asking for food i.e. they need more support than a give away site can offer.

Someone is blatantly asking for things they can sell second had so they can pay their bills !

Someone uploaded a photo of their house plant they were giving away but it was of a lady's face. I advised them of this and got ignored. They did it again. I thought, oh, I get it. Middle aged lady likes gardening.....

Some one else runs an outward bound course and wanted some rope so they could practice their knots. Like a naïve fool, I said I had some. Thanks they replied and I never heard from them again. Reading between the lines that meant: I run an outward bound group for children and I have vacancies, anyone interested ? So much for no advertising. The subtlety of these cheeky fuckers is as bad as the blatant ones.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 01/12/2021 17:11

No shows piss me off more than any of them

You and me both. I totally get that things can come up, but if you can message saying you want it, you can also message to say why you're not coming/coming late

Stupidly, I once saved something for a buyer who "forgot" to turn up, but "would definitely be there tomorrow morning". He didn't turn up then either so I sold it to the next person, at which point he went berserk "You knew I was coming, you c*nt" and more
