To not have taken him for a PCR for these symptoms?

My baby had bronchiolitis (in hospital and confirmed) around 4 weeks ago. They obviously did a Covid test then and it was negative.

They told me if he got a cold again shortly afterwards it would be likely that the symptoms would reoccur.

Anyway, his brother came home from school with a bit if a mild cold last week and passed it round to all of us! Brother did a test for school which was neg and we all got over it in a couple of days, it was very mild. Baby has unfortunately caught this and now the symptoms he had with bronch are back, wheezing and mucus sounding chest. He's had these for about a day and a half now.

This morning he has woken up very wheezy. I'm concerned again. He was on oxygen for a week last time as his levels were too low.

I've contacted the GP this morning who is saying I need to get him tested first.

AIBU to push?! He doesn't have a cough, or a temp right now although he does feel slightly warmer than usual so possibly on its way. Last time he declined very quickly and was rushed to hospital after the community nurse took an oxygen reading from him at home. I'm terrified he's going to go back to that again and don't want to wait another 24hrs or more for a test result to come back.

If he doesn't have the symptoms which require a test then I would push and keep pushing, especially with his recent history and no other covid in the home.

Separately to that I'd probably get a test done so the result is coming through the system in the background and that box will be ticked. But I would do this only as an insurance against the pushing not working, not instead of pushing.

It shouldn't have to be this way with the situation you've outlined.

Take him a&e they won't turn you away, and they can test there.

ComDummings · 30/11/2021 09:38

No he doesn’t need a test, they’re trying to fob you off

shouldistop · 30/11/2021 09:39

Ridiculous that a GP won't see a poorly baby. Even if the baby has Covid does that mean they don't need medical treatment.

I second going to A&E

PointBlankKicks · 30/11/2021 09:42

I've booked the PCR anyway but just not comfortable waiting another day for it to come back. They are saying wheezing is a symptom so he needs one.

Think you're right and it'll be A&E.

It actually makes me angry that a wheezing baby is to be left without medical care.

nanbread · 30/11/2021 09:48

Since when was wheezing a symptom. Ask them to show you the evidence.

Agree with A&E

Me too, it’s disgraceful

They have a duty of care to see the child regardless of the test result anyway. In our surgery they have a 'hot hub' where you are seen if you are displaying symptoms of covid but still need to see a GP. Regardless of if it is covid of not he would still need to be seen as he isn't well.

authenticforgery · 30/11/2021 09:50

Angry fucking GPs. They did similar to my baby OP and we ended up in A&E with her in agony with severe tonsillitis. Could have been nipped in the bud with antibiotics from the GP before it got so bad that she couldn't drink.
Keep pushing or just go to A&E. They'll help you.

Letmesleepitoff · 30/11/2021 09:57

A&E. The GP should still see patients with unknown covid status (different door entry, increased PPE). Covid isn’t an excuse to delay or not see patients. When you have the energy after getting through this next round of wheeze, I’d complain to the GP practice. Hope little one is ok.
