Building work

So we had some damp on one of the walls in my daughters room, it left a large damp stain on the wall. We got a company in who fixed the damage and changed us £4,800 to get it fixed which we paid. We then noticed 2 months later that the damp patch has returned and is wet to the touch. Called the company back and said that the problem was not fixed first time around. They came around yesterday and said that there was another issue that was unrelated to the first issue (even though the problem is in the same space). They fixed the problem again yesterday and are now charging us a further £500 for fixing it. It only happened yesterday and they are ringing me demanding the payment. I am going to pay as I don’t want to be hounded by them, however ABIU to think this should have been covered by the work they done originally to fix the problem. I feel like so much money was paid the first time and it hadn’t actually fixed the problem as the wall was still damp.

whats the other issue ? I'd want a detailed / itemised account for both works for my insurance

They said it was a different part of the roof that had tiles missing. I checked with hone insurance and it’s not covered.

No get a details of the work incase it comes back and you can show your insurance company exactly what you paid for (incase their are more problemsand they can deal with it)

Surely when they were on the roof checking initial missing tiles they claim caused the damp, they would have noticed there were other tiles missing.
Had they done the job properly first time around, this wouldn’t have happened.

I don’t buy it either OP.

@Jazzhandsyeah
That’s what I feel like! With price of the work from the first time they came, I wouldn’t have thought it would have sorted it. I almost felt a bit bullied by the guys who came yesterday as they said that it was a different issue and nothing to do with their previous work even though the damp is exactly where it was previously! They only told me how much it would be at the end of the day yesterday after telling me they would come and have a look at it and completing the repairs and then to be demanding the money the day after just didn’t sit right with me.

Would have not wouldn’t!

So what were the problem each time that were not related? First one was the tiles, the second?

could very well be a new fault/damage & is just tracking the same path through the wall. If your roof is of an age/condition that it is having damage/leaks then it is very possible that there is more than 1 or another appears a short time later, especially if they have disturbed things making the original repair

JazzHandsYeah · 30/11/2021 12:33

It would be worth getting a second opinion. Another company to come and give the roof and internal damp the once over. Don’t mention what’s happened, but see what a quote picks up on by someone else.
