Braised red cabbage in freezer since last Christmas, dare I serve it this Christmas?

My fail safe Mary Berry braised red cabbage has been in my freezer since last Christmas. Would you serve it up this year? I think it'll be fine & one less thing to do but am I being awful?

Absolutely would!

ClaudiaWankleman · 30/11/2021 00:45

Yes. Unless you’ve defrosted your freezer multiple times in between and left it uncovered and freezer burnt, why wouldn’t you?

sunkisses100 · 30/11/2021 00:49

This is very encouraging, thank you! Maybe I should ask Dame Mary too!

Noooo…. I am sure it’s perfectly edible but it will just not be as nice.

Slippy78 · 30/11/2021 01:32

It will be fine.

But personally as it only costs a couple of quid to make a fresh one then I'd do that instead. However, if it was a £50 joint of meat instead then I'd go for the one out the freezer...

Absolutely DO NOT eat it.

Throw it in the garden, smash it with a sledgehammer, drench it in petrol then set fire to it - then stamp on it. Red cabbage is the evil Christmas sister of sprouts

ThinWomansBrain · 30/11/2021 01:53

It will be divine - does it have alcohol in? will have matured nicely!
Having found it, I think I'd eat it way before christmas - jsut with mashed potato!

fallfallfall · 30/11/2021 01:58

it will be lovely especially if you add a touch more oil and bake it a long while at a low temp.

sunkisses100 · 30/11/2021 02:30

Good plan I'll add more butter to make it extra delicious!

I'd defrost a little bit of it and taste test it first.

NdujaWannaDance · 30/11/2021 02:44

It will be fine but I imagine it will taste a bit sub-par. Do you really want to risk that on Christmas Day for the sake of the cost of a bit of cabbage?

Eat it by all means, but not on Christmas Day.
