AIBU to be really pleased that I was too lazy to clean the bathroom earlier today?

I just couldn’t be bothered (I usually clean it daily).

Then DS (13) came home having played rugby in school. Bath dirty, floor dirty and the toilet 🤮.

I am doing the cleaning now. And am looking forward to a hot bath in a freshly cleaned bathroom later Grin.

Anyone else with the same experience?

If he made enough mess for you to use the vomit emoji then he should have cleaned it up.

AnneLovesGilbert · 29/11/2021 19:03

He should be cleaning up his mess. So no, not had a similar experience.

MothExterminator · 29/11/2021 19:04

I usually would have made him. But he has a heap of homework and seems to be super keen to do a really good job of it. I am letting him get away for today!

rrhuth · 29/11/2021 19:04

I would have asked them to clean up that mess.

JessicaPipsqueak · 29/11/2021 19:06

Lol. Typical twatty posters deliberately picking out the one thing that actually means fuck all. They just think they sound clever

Good call there OP.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/11/2021 19:09

It's not twatty. If the bathroom was cleaned yesterday, it doesn't need doing today.

If you think it needs doing today, either someone has made a big mess that they haven't cleaned up, and that person needs to clean it and stop making that much dirt in one day.

Or it's still clean and the OP needs to get help because she thinks a clean bathroom needs cleaning.

Either way, the answer is not for the OP to clean the bathroom today.

MothExterminator · 29/11/2021 19:18

I am a mum of 3 children, applying for lots of jobs but not working at the moment. I like a clean bathroom… I don’t do deep clean every day but I like the mirrors, the bath, the sink and the toilet scrubbed daily.

Today was a fluke. Tomorrow will be skill.

It is a good point that DCs should help (but youngest is 7).

I am currently filling up a lovely clean bath with lots of bubbles for me. I will let everyone else use it tomorrow (DH in the morning, DS, DS and DD in the evening). Now that I see what the rugby season does in terms of dirt, I will not clean until after evening bath. DC can start, I will finish. And then I will use my sparkling clean bath first Smile.

I can’t help imagining some posters going round with permanent cat’s bum faces, wielding rotas and chore schedules to fend off the normal chaos of family life! Hope you enjoyed your lovely clean bath, op!

That is just your imagination though, loads of people's families are not chaos and everyone chips in to help.
Clymene · 29/11/2021 19:51

Mum's going to clean my shit off the loo, I don't need to! 👍

Good old mum! Picking up after boys since year dot

MothExterminator · 29/11/2021 19:52

Thank you Hunky, I loved it.

I am amazed how much other children seems to help in terms of proper cleaning (or they get less mucky playing sports) and I will definitely see what I can do with DCs.

But the amount of mud on DS’ knees today Shock. I thought football was bad, that is nothing compared to rugby!

OP posts:
MothExterminator · 29/11/2021 19:53

And for the record, we did have a serious conversation about the toilet. That won’t happen again.

OP posts:
LindaLooky · 29/11/2021 19:55

I have not experienced this.

nimbuscloud · 29/11/2021 19:56

A 13 year old leaving a mess in or around the toilet for his mother to clean is not acceptable IMO.

MattHancocksSexTape · 29/11/2021 20:04

And people wonder why some men are so lazy around the house. It’s pathetic.

Hankunamatata · 29/11/2021 20:15

Op I get your light hearted post unlike most so far.

Quite surprised by all these amazing 13 year olds who clean bathrooms. As the mum of a 13 year old who plays hockey, rugby, and football - comes home coated in mud. I don't think he has every volunteered to clean the mud speckled bathroom. Sometimes he is sent back in sometimes not depends on the time of night and level of chaos.

Do my children volunteer to clean the bathroom? No

Do they think it's my job to clean it when they've left it really filthy? Also no.

Obviously, as is well documented on these boards, I am a humourless feminist but I'm really struggling to see what's funny about this.

Can you explain? Is it that the OP didn't clean the bathroom earlier so it wasn't quite so fucking awful when her son covered it in mud and shit which she had to clean before she could have a bath? Is that the funny bit?

Confused

Oh I bet he is 🤣🤣

Seriously though, he should've made an effort, even if only for 10 or 15 minutes.

itsgettingwierd · 29/11/2021 20:27

This is why I'm glad my ds is a swimmer.

He showers a lot but at least he comes home bleached and gets in the bath cleaner than it is 🤣🤣🤣

Now if you have any advice on how to stop him soaking the floor even though we have 2 bath mats alongside the bath .......... 🙄🤔

They're not 'amazing'. They've just been brought up with the basic expectation that they'll clean up after themselves.

It's starts very young - "Ok tidy up your toys now" and continues as they get older.

It's not a big deal if you're used to it.

Woman comes on mumsnet, oh chuckle isn’t it serendipitous I didn’t have to clean the bathroom twice today instead of once! Lucky me!!!!!

CSJobseeker · 29/11/2021 22:23

I agree. It's depressing that women being treated as the house drudge is so often thought to be a bit of a giggle.

Constance1 · 29/11/2021 22:36

Ok maybe if you are happy to clean the floor then that's up to you, but why couldn't he clean the bath quickly and also no-one should be cleaning a toilet for a 13 year old. I get that this was supposed to be a lighthearted thread, but it makes pretty depressing reading that a woman is grateful in this day and age that she hasn't had to clean the bathroom twice in one day.

Queenyq · 29/11/2021 23:23

I'm always pleased that I'm too lazy to clean the bathroom, it doesn't need cleaning every day. Life is too short.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 29/11/2021 23:27

I now have yet another reason not to clean the bathroom- lest marauding rugby players rampage through it.

Thanks, OP.
