To Not Rebook a Facial with this Person?

This is a bit of a moral dilemma! A while back I had a leg and eyebrow wax at a place a friend recommended because it was good value. It was really good value, if somewhat long (it felt like I was there 2 hours)! At the end I asked to pay by card, but she said she only took cash, or cheques if it was over a certain amount. I didn't have cash but she grudgingly accepted a cheque even though the total was less than the said 'certain amount.' Anyway I decided to rebook for a £40 hour and a half facial because it was such good value (even though a load of wax got stuck to my foot and wouldn't come off - she said it was because my feet were so cold). Sorry to ramble, but to cut a long story short, I proceeded to then have an exceedingly stressful month, got ill, and totally FORGOT to turn up for the facial... asleep and dosed up to the eyeballs upstairs, I missed several calls from her to my mobile and she phoned my friend to get my home number too! Do I still send her the £40????

but if it's a haircut you missed would you do the same? This was at a salon. And there was no notice about paying up for missed appointments.

Yes, I'll rebook. Thanks. It's just she annoyed me by trying to get my home tel. no. from my friend - that's unprofessional

yes but this place was recommended by a friend and she did phone you several times . She couldnt put someone else in your place . Why should she loose out because you forgot. Not being horrible but you did ask .

She said she'd book me in before Christmas, but unfortunately I don't even have £40 to spare now!

you DO NOT owe her the forty pound!!!!!! i am a trained beauty therapist and there is no way you owe her anything...a simple mistake....thats all.

MulledWhine · 16/12/2007 20:21

Paros - no offence taken! I feel I should pay in a way, but something's stopping me (apart from being short of cash at Christmas) - she sort of annoyed me a bit. Why did I rebook for a facial after she annoyed me at the waxing then? I don't know!

Mimi - really? yes that WAS my feeling. I've missed quite a few dental appointments, for example, and they only threatened to charge me after the 2nd misdemenour! And they didn't phone my friend repeatedly either

southeastastra · 16/12/2007 20:23

ask her is she has a price for missed appointments? though she did try to contact you and you could have have the courtesy to cancel

mimi03 · 16/12/2007 20:25

also............ unless she stated in the beginning that she charges a 'no show' or cancelation fee, then you owe her nothing. it also sounds as if she is unprofessional in her conduct and this may well carry through to her hygiene practices.....id stay clear.

MulledWhine · 16/12/2007 20:27

Well I did think it was unprofessional when I booked initially for waxing that came to under £30 she didn't inform me that I should bring cash along. She only told me after the waxing. People don't necessarily have £30 cash on them these days - I assumed she would take a card.

I dont think you should give her the £40 , It was a genuine mistake that you missed the appointment and also it was the first time you had ever let her down. Normally they only charge for missed appointments if its a repeat offender AND they want to get rid of you as a client.

MulledWhine · 16/12/2007 20:28

Southeast - I WOULD have had the courtesy to cancel if I had REMEMBERED! If you forget, you can't be courteous. And it was a genuine forget.

Hmmm...Maybe mo legal obligation to send the money, but bad form not to, I think. She must have been pretty irritated at having to wait around. And you've missed two dental appts? Tut tut!! I'd start setting alarms on your mobile in future. It's just a bit rude to forget.

RudolphtheredROSEreindeer · 16/12/2007 20:30

i wouldnt give her the £40!, she didnt do the job you asked for, even though it was cos you couldnt get there, its a business, she shouldnt have been rining you at home and TBH, doesnt sound THAT good value to me!, she sounds very unprofesional

MulledWhine · 16/12/2007 20:31

Plenty for me to mull over - I have to go and have a bath now. Obviously I want to go with those of you who say I shouldn't pay up!!! But only if I feel it's justified. My gut feeling IS that she is a bit unprofessional. No, there was no mention of any cancellation fee or any policy on that subject. OR advance warning of the cash only policy, which I DO find annoying.

OP posts:
RudolphtheredROSEreindeer · 16/12/2007 20:33

definatly dont pay!, i wouldnt dream of it!, unless i planned to go back or was a regular in which case i would even then just ring and say so sorry was very poorly totally forgot!

southeastastra · 16/12/2007 20:35

write appointments down in future, i find it hard to forget appointments

EmilyDavidson · 16/12/2007 20:39

My best friend is a beauty therapist , people miss appointments everyday ,its just part of the business. Anyone professional wouldn't dream of charging for a one off missed appointment. They either want you to rebook (preferably on a regular basis!) , or not bother them again.
Most small beauty places only deal in cash and cheques btw ,its a pain if you're not expecting it but its pretty common.
