that she shouldn't come?

DH's sister arrived back in UK last weekend after two weeks in Johannesburg. She wants to come in and pick up some stuff she left at ours this afternoon and I've said it might not be a good idea as she hasn't had the PCR test results (or perhaps even the PCR test for recently arrived travellers yet, I don't know). I've offered to drop the stuff to her. DH has said I'm being ridiculous and thinks it's because I don't like her. I've got to go to an office next week and meet staff that also visit care homes so want to be cautious.

YABU - it's okay for her to come in the house and get the stuff (and have a drink etc)
YANBU - he should do a doorstep handover or let me drop it off at hers

With the new variant appearing, I'd say yanbu.

WTF475878237NC · 27/11/2021 10:59

It makes total sense to drop the stop off and be cautious. YANBU to me.

TidyDancer · 27/11/2021 11:00

Yanbu. There is a clear alternative that either you or DH can facilitate so there's really no justification for taking a risk.

PILHELP · 27/11/2021 11:03

I should add it's only because of the new variant and that per the Health Security guidelines she should get tested

OP posts:
uhohspaghettiohh · 27/11/2021 11:07

Yanbu. I'd be exactly the same.

WayneKorr · 27/11/2021 11:09

YANBU he is

divface · 27/11/2021 11:13

Its been 7 days so presumably she wont come if she has symptoms

Chloemol · 27/11/2021 11:21

YANBU.

PILHELP · 27/11/2021 11:21

She thinks we have always been "really careful" because in the early days we followed the rules Hmm I think in the absence of clear guidelines it is common sense to minimise contact with people to protect people more vulnerable than us.

OP posts:
sweeneytoddsrazor · 27/11/2021 11:24

If she has been back a week already then I would think its ok

TiddlesTheTiger · 27/11/2021 11:27

Dropping the stuff off is easy to do and will stop you from worrying.
What's their problem?

NearlyThereMum · 27/11/2021 11:31

@PILHELP

YANBU and if you're anything like me, you would just sit and worry about it if she did come to your home and have contact with you. For your own peace of mind, drop the stuff off
itsallgoingpearshaped · 27/11/2021 11:50

YANBU. Remind your husband you are coming into contact with very vulnerable older people in the next few days, and he and his sister need to consider others.

I wouldn't let him drop the stuff off either if you feel he'd just go in and have a chat with her; he'll bring it home if she has it. Ask her to wait until her results are back.

MeetMeAtOurSpot · 27/11/2021 11:52

@sweeneytoddsrazor

If she has been back a week already then I would think its ok
Why? Plenty of people on here tested positive on the last day of family isolation when it was 14 days, why assume she’s safe on day 7 when you are meeting staff who are going to see vulnerable people in care homes?
Elieza · 27/11/2021 12:19

Why risk it when there is an easy safe solution.

She should follow whatever rules are in place and isolate if supposed to. I would if I’d just come from there just in case I was a symptomless carrier.

Shedmistress · 27/11/2021 12:22

Shouldn't she have done a day 2 test?

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/11/2021 12:24

No she shouldn’t come in. But I’d try and help by doing a doorstep drop at her house.

Branleuse · 27/11/2021 12:25

Could she do a LFT before coming?

FrogFairy · 27/11/2021 12:34

I think you should drop the stuff off to her as your husband is not taking it seriously and would be likely to go in for a cuppa and a chat.

SapphosRock · 27/11/2021 12:52

YANBU at all

PILHELP · 27/11/2021 13:06

She did a day two LFT as per the travel rules at the time. Apparently she is being sent a PCR due to her travel history but it hasn't arrived yet and she is not required to isolate until then 🤦🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
tallduckandhandsome · 27/11/2021 14:26

Why can’t H tale the stuff to her and catch up with her outdoors?

They both sound like idiot siblings.

Elieza · 27/11/2021 14:28

I can’t understand why they think she can stroll about while awaiting a pcr. Surely she’s misunderstood? That seems crazy.

MrsClatterbuck · 27/11/2021 14:46

*The changes mark the return of the UK's travel red list, which had been cleared of all countries in October.

Travellers from South Africa, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini will not be able to enter the UK unless they are UK or Irish nationals, or UK residents.

Flights to the UK from these countries have been suspended until 04:00 GMT on Sunday - when it's hoped quarantine arrangements will be ready.

Arrivals will then have to pay for and self-isolate in a government-approved hotel for 10 days.

Rates are:

10 days (11-nights) for one adult - £2,285
Additional adult (or child over 11) - £1,430
Children aged five to 11 - £325
Anyone arriving in the UK beforehand, who's been in one of the six countries in the last 10 days, must self-isolate at home for 10 days and take PCR tests on day two and day eight of their quarantine*

From the BBC

DrunkenKoala · 27/11/2021 14:50

If she arrived back less than 10 days ago I think she’s supposed to be self isolating

"If anyone has travelled to any of these four countries, or any of the other recently red-listed countries in the last 10 days, then they must self-isolate and take PCR tests."
