Work are making us sign a disclaimer for laptop

As above. We were given laptops in the first lockdown as they upgraded the systems and the piece of crap desktops were replaced. We are now back in the office.

We’ve now received an email asking us to sign a disclaimer telling us what we must do with the laptops.

I’ve heard on the grapevine someone lost it during a night out or whatever.

Won’t go into to much details but is this legal/normal?

OP are they saying you will be responsible for replacing it if you lose it? If so, ask them why they don't have adequate insurance. I do think that's unreasonable.

General security/use policies are normal though.

We have to as we take them home and they have access to personal and sensitive information

We have to sign a usage policy

It says we will keep security updates current, observe the company internet policy, and report any loss, theft or damage to the IT desk ASAP

Not just sign a waiver - we have to do an online course with quiz about laptop security, what to do if it's lost / stolen which you have to pass as part of our employment contract. Every single year.

Sounds normal, but it is a bit annoying that you have to have the laptop for work, but it can start impinging on you private life if you example you have to take the laptop home but want to go to the gym directly after work, or you want to meet a friend after work for a few drinks.

Had one employer that had something in there t&C's about having your laptop Kensington locked even when at home!!

Is it normal for people with work phones ans laptops?

Yep. Completely normal and standard practice for most companies.
