To wonder what this stress is doing to us

There are some people who have probably been in a permanent state of panic and anxiety now since March 2020. The new variant, the talk of lockdown in other countries, people dying despite being vaccinated, and so on.
I know of some people who are still being very careful, only meet up outside etc.
The constant state of anxiety is what’s going to make us ill, I know first hand what stress-related illness can do.
Living in fear every day is horrible, it really affects your physical and mental well-being.
The media does not help this at all with constant articles, 24/7 Covid coverage, every time you ring your medical practice, 111, and so on it’s all about Covid for the first few questions, there’s no escape.
Why are we expected to live with this stress? Until when ?

I can’t disagree that stress is generally bad for you.

But this:

“Why are we expected to live with this stress”

What do you actually mean? Nobody just decided to create a new variant to piss you off 🤷🏻‍♀️

I make choices about the media I will read and how much of it. I can’t say I’m particularly stressed at all. There have been difficult times - included a Covid death of a close family member, and long furloughs for my husband, and all the fun of unsupported homeschool for my child, long hours at work for me due to Covid effects. But you know, day to say, I’m not stressed at all. That awfully annoying phrase, “it is what it is” applies to me. I’m being smug here - I’m one of millions who are just getting on with it.

I don’t think the number of headlines is the biggest impact on people’s resilience. I think it’s more about your personality type.

That should say I’m not being smug 🤣
It’s just how I am, and millions are the same.

@Suzi888

YANBU stress is a killer, it consumes you.
It does Sad

I’m full of anxiety because my DP is incredibly high risk. I now just want to get it. I can’t bear this anticipatory terror any more.

I’ve developed an eating disorder, my hair is falling out and I can barely leave the house. I have a panic attack if the postie knocks on the door. We may as well just get it and die because this isn’t living.
