New house .... neighbours flytipping

Hello

Looking for some advice please.

Just moved to a new house. We're first time buyers in a terraced street in a city suburb that's very "up and coming" (read: a bit rough in parts)

The neighbours opposite live next to an alley which they seem to use as their personal dumping ground. First it was 6 or 7 full bin liners that the council eventually took away and now multiple mattresses just thrown very openly over their garden wall into the alley.

AIBU to report them? I'm loathed to do it as it could make it things very difficult if they found out and I'm a big wimp when it comes to confrontation but it's right outside our window and we'd really like this to stop.

Does anyone have experience of this and are such reports anonymous?

@Pieminster

I live next to an alley and store things that need to go to the top there, then when there's enough, I dispose of it. My garden is too small to keep things in. No one has ever complained that I an flytipping! Maybe that's what your neighbours are doing
You really shouldn't as you are fly tipping, people can access the alley and damage themselves on your waste, also it may encourage rats

Definitely report them, no one gets a free pass.

You don't 'store' things there. You dump your rubbish there until it's convenient. Stop dumping your rubbish in public places that don't belong to you, it's called fly tipping. If you can't fit it in your house/garden then you take it to the tip.

Please report them.

I live in an area where people are constantly flytipping. I spend my life reporting it, speaking to people from the council, emailing local councillors, putting notes on things. I'm the only one where I live who does anything proactively to try and stop it, everyone else just ignores it.

It has absolutely ruined my mental health as it is so relentless and it upsets me so much, constantly living surrounded by other peoples furniture they've chucked on the street or rubbish bags that they put outside any day of the week to be ripped open by foxes.

If you don't report it there is no chance it will stop. Record evidence of them doing it and send it in to your council, ask your local councillor to do it if you are worried.

Jesus, I'd report it anonymously too. Just scummy

Same scenario a few years ago. Reported them and nothing changed so because six months of environmental health investigating them being unable to use a bin! As in raw bones just thrown outside.. get reporting now so it speeds things up!!

A lot of terraced streets seem to have at least one house that uses the back alley as their personal trash storage like the op admitted to doing.

There's also been a problem with people fly tipping in people's actual back yards too. One bloke woke to find his back yard full of old tyres.

Volunteers have gone around cleaning back alleys up and taking trash away for people to start piling their shit there again a few days later.

There's also been issues with vermin and kids setting fires to the trash, wasn't that long ago a family had to leave their house after a sofa and other bits of furniture were set alight and the outbuilding also set alight.

Our council ask people to report people using the back alley and an extension of their bin.

I'd never dream of storing my rubbish in the back alley. It gets taken to the tip in smaller runs or kept in my own yard.

Good for you! I hope something comes from it 👍

Do you have the LoveCleanStreets app on your phone? If so you can use it to report very easily (I mainly use it to report broken glass on the pavement outside our school).
