Dd wants to start lessons next year. She works full time so cannot do any intensive courses to get through it quicker.
But could do more than 1 lesson a week potentially.
So is it best to do 1 lesson a week which spreads the cost out gradually or pay the extra for 2 or more lessons a week in the hope that it's all over quicker?
It's been a long time since I passed my test! Think it's much harder now.

I would say two lessons a week and look for somewhere that will do 90 minute lessons. Two hours is too long and one hour is too short.

I did between 1-2 hours per week. My dad owns a driving school so he took me out. Sometimes it'd be two hours on a weekend, or it'd be an hour on my lunch break at college.

One thing he was really adamant that I must experience was driving in all conditions - glaring sun, icy roads, heavy rain, dark nights. So he didn't rush me putting me through for my test. I started my lessons in the August and passed the following April. He was happy with me doing one hour per week, more whenever we could fit it in, so long as he was confident that I'd had experience of driving in different conditions.

So I'd say just do what you can afford. Most students can only afford one hour per week and manage to pass their tests just fine.

You can’t have just one hour a week, can you? All lessons are generally two hours. I thought that was introduced because of Covid restrictions, and I suspect it’s here to stay.

I found an instructor who did 7-9am with me and dropped me off at work which was amazing. I wasn't able to practice outside of lessons but managed to pass my test first time after about 8 weeks. No one was more surprised than me. I think I was just so determined to pass to get it over with!

I have taught all of my 7 children and step children. I am very pro driving as a life skill that gives everyone who gets their license a real advantage in life/the job market etc.

Mine had ten lessons for their 17 birthday and learner insurance cover on either my or DH car. (Not at all expensive and doesn't affect your nc)

Most took about 4-6 months. The secret is practice between lessons. Every time one of you needs to go out and the learner is around - they drive you.. . All have now passed.

The secret is practice between lessons.
Surely most people can’t do this - because they don’t have access to a car, or to someone who can accompany them. Neither of my children could practise between lessons.

Depends if she has a car to practice in. DD had 10 one hour lessons and passed first time but me and DH took her out in our car every couple of days or so.
