I work full time and live alone, but when I get home my phone seems to be going with texts non stop from various people. I text back out of politeness but they keep the conversation going and going and i'm wondering when it will stop and I can have half an hour to myself The simple solution would be to switch my phone on silent I suppose but I don't.

You already know the answer.

If you find it hard, try switching it off for an hour after you get home. Just one hour. Or switch it off an hour before you go to bed.

But switch it totally off.

Once you start to feel free from the 'grip' of it you'll find it easier

I've started doing tech free time. No TV or phone. I did a day but you can start small.

Definitely set your phone to 'do not disturb' times. During these times only my DH's or DD's attempts to get in touch with me will come through. All other emails, texts, updates, calls, notifications (or whatever) are muted and hidden from me.

Calyx72 · 25/11/2021 21:16

Just say oh need to go then mute it

People do get used to who replies quickly and who doesn’t. If you are worried about not replying, just leave longer and longer in between replies. If you have an iPhone, the new update has a do not disturb function that tells senders of messages that you won’t see their message.

Just misplace your phone constantly like I do! People soon stop bothering!

I thought you were going to say you have young kids!

Just turn the phone off, woman! It's a request, not a summons.

I must admit I expected this to be about a busy full time working mum whose family were always around and demanding things. I would sympathise ( I remember the first time in 10 years I was alone in the house - bliss). People contacting you by phone? Sorry, no. Just don't reply. It really is that simple.

Phones are an addiction. Try the Forest app to break the habit.

The best thing to do is to not reply for at least a few hours
