Having my home facial

So I have arranged for a therapist to come to the house to do a facial and massage as a treat. She was recommended by a friend. I’ve paid my deposit and really look forward to it. However/ I’ve just checked her website and noticed the products she uses are ‘all natural’ and I don’t think they will suit my skin (have to use prescription based skin care to prevent adult acne) would I be unreasonable to ask her to use my own products that I know suit my skin?

I find is a really odd question.
You have to ask?!!

Of course you should discuss it with her in advance - if a part of her way of doing it is to use various products, then only have one that you’ll use, for example, then she’d need to prepare for that.

But as long as you speak to her before, why on Earth wouldn’t you avoid breaking out in spots?!

But all natural will be better for your skin so YABU. Also don't book facials if you're concerned, just stick with massage. Can't see her being happy to use your clearisil et al.

JustFrustrated · 24/11/2021 20:44

Bullshit. All natural isn't necessarily better for skin.

For example, lots contain peppermint - which aggravates acneic skin

Same for rosehip products.

Also, anything marketed as "clean" is cosmetics is bullshit too FYI.

But that being said, yes absolutely discuss your needs with her! I'm sure she'd be happy to oblige, or advise why she can't.

Thehop · 24/11/2021 20:44

YANBU at all. Any decent therapist would want to discuss your skin needs before treatment and I see no reason why they wouldn’t switch certain products for ones you know don’t cause a reaction.

Clearasil isn't prescription based skincare. So you've just exposed your very limited understanding of skincare.

Are you new to facials? I don’t mean that patronisingly but I love them and therefore always ensure I only book where they use products I like (Elemis and Dermalogica).

It’s a bit strange not to have checked that first.

If it’s Tropic or Arbonne then it’s an MLM and just a way to flog you stuff.

Do you have all the products necessary for a facial?

Two cleansers
Exfoliant
Mask
Oil
Acid toner (not massively necessary)
Moisturiser

If you have all those then it should be fine to ask her to use your stuff but given you use Dermalogica I think it’s odd you didn’t book a Dermalogica facial.

I’ll never understand why people post shit like this when they clearly know absolutely fuck all about the subject.
DroopyClematis · 24/11/2021 20:54

Did it not occur to you that the therapist would use their own products?

Sounds a bit daft.

Toottooot · 24/11/2021 21:45

Depending on what brand she uses, she’ll be trained in techniques specific to that brand and the results etc will be based on their products. I’d it’s a brand she’s not familiar with I can’t see her being happy to go ahead.

Pedalpushers · 24/11/2021 22:43

I don't really see the point of having a facial just to get her to use the same stuff you always do?

AutumnLeaves21 · 24/11/2021 22:48

Absolutely no point in booking a facial then! You’re just laying her to rub your own products on your face?? Grin Grin sorry this really made me laugh 😂 what’s the bloody point.
Just get a massage

DDivaStar · 24/11/2021 22:53

If you use prescription skincare why didn't you consider this before or at the time of booking?
