Bath toys

Well this is a riveting thread for you today!

My daughters plastic bath toys have started getting mouldy on the outside (not the inside as they'd be going in the bin)

My solution is to scrub them with Bleach and water, rinse and put back in the bath toy basket.

My DH says this is so wrong and I could poison our daughter who does put them in her mouth sometimes in the bath

So AIBU? how do you clean bath toys. Soap and water etc isn't cleaning them. Thanks.

Milton maybe? But I have to say if there is mould on the outside there is a chance some is on the inside too. Bath toys are a pain in the arse, after we had to bin the second batch due to mould I just got DD a set of plastic cups from IKEA for about 90p and run them through the dishwasher every week or so. No little nooks and corners to get mouldy and as long as she could scoop and pour water she was happy enough!

I’d do the same as you. But Milton and the dishwasher both sound like good ideas.

With Milton do I just soak them in it or do I need to scrub them with something? Clearly I'm clueless. I'm reluctant to just bin them all and start again as it seems wasteful.

I soak mine in milton but tbh I've stopped buying them as I keep having to chuck them away and then feel guilty about buying new ones. The DC play with old plastic picnic cups in the bath now.

I started rinsing and drying them after a bath and keeping them in a hanging net. That seemed to keep them mould free.

Have you put them through the dishwasher? I'd try a soak in Milton then whizz through the dishwasher. Then you could glue up the holes once it's clean inside Wink

Great tips thank you. I'm going to bin the ones that are likely to have mould inside (can't see any of them do but better to be safe than sorry) and soak the others in Milton. I won't be buying anymore as it doesn't seem right. To be fair we've had some of these for 3 years so that's pretty good going, they used to clean up fine with soap and hot water and a good scrub but not now.
