Thinking of booking a last min trip for Feb. We want islands that have some life - with our 10 year old son - but not overloaded with tourists.

Any recs? TIA

I also loved Koh Chang, and Krabi too. Both ace times, but was with exDP, no kids, so can’t recommend particule children things. The beaches were beautiful, and we did a lot of snorkelling too. One thing we did do (which was ace), and there were families at, was an afternoon at Thai cooking school. There were a lot around. We also did that in Chiang Mai. The people were very friendly to kids, and they obviously cooked as a family with their parents, but did a lot of the chopping/stirring, whilst supervised.
You will know what your son is interested in, and there were quite a lot of opportunities just to book for the next day, for example.
Oh, and if you’re doing a boat trip, a lot of them are a bit shonky… it’s best to go see the boat, and check that it’s got life jackets, etc., as we went on one which definitely felt unsafe. (Lack of planning… 😣)
Have a brilliant time. I’m envious - I love Thailand a lot.

@Glassyellowbottle it did spoil it a bit for us. I think they were quite prevalent where we were. Did too much googling of it beforehand.

Personally, I can't wait to resume taking my three long hail holidays abroad.

Good luck with doing that unvaccinated.[/quote]
No luck required. Lots of places don't require the visitor to be vaccinated.

BudgeSquare · 29/11/2021 17:44

You won't be off to Thailand though @Baluchistan95

www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/thailand/entry-requirements
If you’re fully vaccinated
From 1 November 2021, fully vaccinated people arriving from 63 countries, including the UK, can enter Thailand. You must take a PCR test before you leave the UK and when you arrive in Thailand, and you must stay in approved accommodation for 24 hours while you wait for the results. More information on entry requirements and the full list of 63 countries are on the Tourism Authority of Thailand website.

Fully vaccinated travellers arriving from countries not on the list can enter Thailand under the Sandbox Programme. This requires you to stay in a hotel or other accommodation approved by the Thai government for 7 nights.

If you’re not vaccinated
Travellers from all countries who are not fully vaccinated must quarantine at a State Quarantine or Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) facility. You will not be allowed to leave your room except for medical treatment or COVID-19 tests.

You may be required to download the Thai Chana COVID-19 tracking app when you arrive

Where is it that you think you will be allowed in?

Suspiciousmind20 · 29/11/2021 18:27

So irresponsible to fly for fun at the moment. The new variant being one reason. The climate emergency being the obvious other.
You can call me a party pooper or any other name you want but it doesn’t make what I’m saying any less true. If you don’t need to fly, you shouldn’t. End of.

Erm...literally dozens of places. Please refer to the Foreign Office travel advice.

No, I'm asking you. You said you "couldn't wait to get back to your three long-haul holidays a year". I'm asking you what destinations you are planning to visit, given that you are and are going to remain unvaccinated.

Fair comment. Yes, I cannot wait to get back to my three long-haul holidays per year. I have not decided on the destinations yet, such a choice, lol. As I indicated previously, I am spoilt for choice. The foreign office travel page is a great reference point. Hth's.
BudgeSquare · 29/11/2021 19:36

I don't think you are spoilt for choice if you remain unvaccinated, no.

I'm familiar with the FCDO advice, which is precisely why I made that point. Think you may have a little bit of a shock coming when you start to plan your "three long-haul holidays every year."

Why on earth is that? I do not think that is correct at all. Incidentally, are you normally so obsessive about strangers' holidays. Are you okay?

Okay, I can see you're getting stressed out about this. My first trip booked is Zanzibar, been there twice before. As I can present a negative PCR test, there is no requirement to prove I have been vaccinated. Are you saying I am wrong?
