To want to scream in the face of the child who called DS1....

A retard!!

DS1 has tourettes and has many motion and verbal tics (nothing rude)
A child in his class was mimicking his facial tics and when DS ask him to stop he called DS a retard.

DS was upset but came back with I am not a retard, I have a condition, you on the other hand are an ignorant prat [

I hate people like this and I just want to scream in the childs face (lots of things rude)

dont blame you BUT DS's response probably had a greater effect. Good on him.

QuintessentialShadowOfSnowball · 15/12/2007 15:51

Well done for your ds to come back with such a clever response!

HairyIrene · 15/12/2007 15:55

great retort!
you shoudl be proud..

mollymawk · 15/12/2007 15:57

DS1 is cool.

IsawKIMIkissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2007 15:57

DS handles it far far better then I do TBH.

But as you will all no doubt know it is hell on earth when someone hurts your child.

I saw.....rather than hate the child who did this it gave your child a chance to stand up for himself and show his strength, which given the fact that he had the ability to do this say alot about his confidence and the sucess of your parenting skills.

That fact that he does stand up and can explain his condition will give others the message that actually rather than being what that bully said he is, will give the message that he is not to be messed with and is not prepared to be bullied because of his condition. I think that this will gain him more respect.

WalkinginaWonkaWonderland · 15/12/2007 16:25

Am in total awe of ds1's fantastic response, I only ever think up these things in retrospect. Totally understand your feelings towards the little b who tried to bully him but you must be very proud of what a strong and articulate young man ds1 has grown into

IsawKIMIkissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2007 16:29

Sadly DS1 it a target for bullies, he does stand out, also he has an IQ that puts some adults to shame, I just wish people could see what a bright, kind, funny, loving person he is and not just the tics.

i think you should be proud of your ds.

bossybaublesinherbritches · 15/12/2007 16:43

I'm sure they do see that if they take the time to see past the first impressions & with a quick wit like that he'll soon make friends that'll help defend him, bless him.

How old is he? Maybe a quiet word to the teacher might be in order to ask her,in circle time or whatever they do in his class,if tey could inlcude "valuing each other" & "seeing past the first impresions" etc.

Hope you are very proud of him for firing back that answer, but yes it does hurt when your babes get hurt.

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 15/12/2007 16:49

fab response from your DS to what was foul and unnecessary behaviour.

IsawKIMIkissingsantaclaus · 15/12/2007 16:50

he is 11.

What a nasty child to say that. Your child, by contrast, sounds like a bit of a star.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 15/12/2007 17:03

YANBU - I can understand that it would make you feel better momentarily. However your DS's retort will have much greater effect. He sounds fab.

coldtits · 15/12/2007 17:03

That is one hell of a response from an 11 year old.

If it is any comfort, the girls will be swooning when he is 18 - nothing a teenage girl likes more than a witty boy. Calling people retards is not attractive - lashing them with a rapier wit is amazing to watch!
