Going for two weeks in Easter with my partner.

Bangkok for 3 days
Phuket for 4 days

Now trying to decide on a third destination for the final 4 days. Somewhere with loads to do and not somewhere tiny and boring, we aren't ones for lying on the beach all day?

Which is best:
Koh Samui
Koh Phangan
Phi Phi Islands

Or something else? I'm thinking maybe koh samui?

Made a mistake in my earlier post - I was talking about Hua Hin ( no idea why I wrote Chaweng Beach - that's in Koh Samui )

Anyway I'd still love to visit Hua Hin for the combination of city and beach.

@sunflowerroses

Railay in Krabi is my favourite!
We loved Railay too!

Koh Phangan is an absolute shit hole. If you do go be very careful about where you choose to stay. The worst “hotel” I’ve ever stayed in was koh phangan - it was so bad I cried. It was worse than a homeless hostel … it was the kind of place you would expect homeless smackheads to be squatting in the UK. Words can’t describe how bad it was.

Krabi is lovely but you might find it boring.

Be careful about scams around the golden temple in Bangkok, we got kidnapped there and held hostage for hours before finally being dumped in the middle of nowhere.

I think this is true of the area where the full moon parties are. We rented scooters and did trips of the island and the other side was stunning, and full of 5* resorts!

Chiang Mai!

I love Thailand! To see genuine wild elephants living their best lives, go down the peninsula to Hua Hin or Prachuap Khiri Khan (there is a long but fun train from Bangkok) and visit Kui Buri National Park. It's not an interactive elephant place (horrible) or even a "sanctuary" (most of which are dubious), it's a huge national park where completely wild elephants live as nature intended in family groups and you see them by doing African park-style jeep safaris. Prachuap and Hua Hin are nice seaside towns too - I preferred Prachuap as Hua Hin is a lot more developed.

In Bangkok, river boat rides are nice (just the ordinary river bus that the locals use), as are canal boats. The Baiyoke Tower is a good tourist activity - incredible views and you can have a drink at the top!

Thanks so much guys! So have booked:

Bangkok for 3 days
Phuket for 4 days
Koh samui for 3

What's the best way of getting from Phuket to Koh Samui?

Do you think we should spend one night in Bangkok again before the return flight home?

Another saying I couldn’t leave Phuket soon enough. I’d had enough after 1 night of seeing middle aged western men ogling and buying sex from very young looking Thai women.

A flight is the best way to get there as it is the other side of the country and to do it by bus and boat would take a long time out of your holiday.

DGFB · 22/11/2021 21:01

actually parts of Phuket are beautiful. Nai Thon beach isn’t at all seedy, it’s stunning

We did and I wished we hadn’t booked it. I really just wanted to be on my way home after flying up from Krabi. Leaving the airport to go back into Bangkok only to have to come back the next morning was a PITA.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/11/2021 21:10

None of those - Railay peninsula. Its amazing. No cars there, arrive by boat. Beautiful.

Puffalicious · 22/11/2021 21:33

Why ask everyone if you're going to just ignore the advice and go to Phuket and Samui? Strange.

holidaymeow · 22/11/2021 21:36

@Puffalicious because many people said Koh Samui was lovely and I actually never asked people's advice about Phuket. I was going regardless. Bye bye

Needsleep32 · 22/11/2021 21:36

I can’t remember which side it’s on, but Koh Lipe is stunning.

Needsleep32 · 22/11/2021 21:37

Where in Samui are you staying? We liked Lamai.

holidaymeow · 22/11/2021 21:38

@Needsleep32 we've booked the Melia Resort? Xx

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 22/11/2021 21:47

Chang Mai - visit the beautiful Wat Doi Suthep, take a boat up the Mekong where the golden triangle is, go to the umbrella factory and see them being painted, visit the tribes in the hills, take a trip to the border of Myanmar. Its beautiful place and lots of interesting things to do.

Flying in and out of koh samui is expensive as it's a privately owned airport exclusive to Bangkok air. Probably £100 each from Phuket to koh samui and £100 to BKK. Or take bus and boat which will take best part of a day

Depends on your flight times but there are plenty hotels near the international airport in BKK.
