Going back to nappies

AIBU in putting my 3.5yo back into nappies?

He's still not interested in the potty and was in pull-ups but I'm finding those next to useless on a large toddler so I've gone back to proper nappies for a few months :-(

It's certainly made life easier but I do feel a bit guilty.

Don't feel guilty but set a time limit in your head and try again. At 3.5 i wouldn't bother with the potty, just go straight to the toilet. I had to motivate my eldest with stickers and treats (lego) - would that work on yours? My youngest was older to train but just decided one day she was doing it and that was that

Never used pull up so I would we end up with cloth nappies as help dc feel wet and a bit uncomfortable. Friend pants on hers then disposable nappy on top again to feel the wet more.

Thanks, I've decided we'll tried the potty again in the new year.

Im using cloth nappies for the first, they don't seem to make any difference other than being cheaper to use now that I've got some.

Our daughter would not even get on potty but went straight to toilet. Aged 3. Try that

Mine was never interested either. I knew she was physically capable so just decided we were doing it because you can’t leave them indefinitely can you and I didn’t have any confidence that she’d ever show interest.

Toilet seat (not a potty), naked on bottom half, lots of liquid, regular tries and a skittle for every success worked pretty quickly - dry within a week and hardly ever had an accident after that.

HappyMeal564 · 21/11/2021 19:04

I found not using pull ups at all worked. Put on the toilet constantly, get a small seat for the toilet. Lots of wet pants for two weeks then completely cracked it! Good luck!

Personally yes I think you are. Unless there are medical issues I think 3.5 is too old to be in nappies.

As a rule I never used pull ups with mine. long journeys in the car or plane were a terry cloth training pant over their pants, in case we weren’t able to get to a toilet in the earlier days. I always felt they were too similar to nappies and my child would be used to the feeling of a wet pull same as a nappy. All 4 dc cracked potty training quickly and on before they were 2. And they all preferred the toilet to a potty, choc button rewards.

I guess they all get there in the end but I find this time of year stressful enough without added woes!
