To expect more than 37% of the stated range from a rental mobility scooter?

I am new to the world of mobility aids. DP and I were in London this weekend and as I can't walk more than a few metres I decided to hire a mobility scooter - a TGA minimo, with a stated range of up to 10 miles.

The scooter was delivered to our hotel in Kensington before we arrived and I was congratulating myself on my marvellous find.

However, I used it to travel along Cromwell Road to Knightsbridge and then on to Regent Street, with breakfast and shopping stops where I turned the scooter off. It died outside Liberty - a mere 3.7 miles from our hotel. 3.7 miles on the flat, on mostly smooth pavements.

DP ended up putting it into a black cab and sending it back to our hotel, but it really spoiled the rest of the day as we couldn't do much at all and I am in considerable pain today due to the exertion.

I've emailed the hire company, but they're closed on weekends. I've asked for a refund but AIBU?

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for mobility aids that aren't dull and boring, spam me with them!

That sounds very frustrating.

I wonder if all the restarting drains the battery quicker than a simple drive? Or maybe it’s just an old battery so couldn’t achieve full charge.

YANBU. I hope you manage to get a refund.

Mileage rates vary a lot and are affected by weight and inclines. The best way to preserve the battery is to switch it off every time you stop even if it is only for a few minutes. It might have been that the batteries were no longer holding a full charge

Was it fully charged when you started out from the hotel? It wouldn't necessarily be delivered fully charged.

Yes I think that was it. It really didn't last long despite fairly frequent stops for recovery.

Yes. It arrived on the Friday and I charged it overnight to ensure it was full to the brim for Saturday.

I think it must have been an old battery. It really didn't make for an enjoyable time.
