it seems like the only posts that gain any traction or even get any answers seem to be on the main active menu or AIBU.

It just saddens me when people post in other areas get hardly any replies and some get no responses at all 😔

This is obviously why AIBU ends up being used like this!

Thanks all!

I definitely think there's room for an AIBU at Christmas topic. Grin It's generally a yes.

FatHat · 21/11/2021 13:36

@WheelieBinPrincess

I just scroll through active though, as I’m sure lots do!

Same. I don't even know which topics they're in half the time.

A580Hojas · 21/11/2021 13:43

Yanbu to ask OP. It's a huge irritant to me and lots of others.

Change the name of AIBU to Petty Gripes, that would sort it.

traka · 21/11/2021 13:44

AIBU should be changed to General

Most of the posts there have no AIBU about them

claymodels · 21/11/2021 13:45

Another active reader here

Darkpheonix · 21/11/2021 13:46

Loads of people go by active threads.

Aibu is popular because everyone can have an opinion. Same on relationships etc.

When people are asking specific questions, nor just inviting opinions and advice, they will get less response.

People really aren't obliged to answer anyone. If they want to bump unanswered threads or add to them, that's their own choice.

Deadringer · 21/11/2021 13:48

I go through active too, and click on whatever i fancy, which is usually the chat thread. Yabu

My youngest child is 18. I'm not about to start reading about prams and sterilising bottles. In the twas all fields days, everyone pitched in to answer the unanswered threads.
TeenMinusTests · 21/11/2021 13:51

I think quality is more important than quantity.

If I post in education, or SN, or adoption or even teenagers, I'd rather get 4 thoughtful, informed, replies than if I posted the same in AIBU or Chat and then get ill informed or out of date comments.

Every now and then MN merges sub boards that aren't used much. But some are kept because if you do need them you need to be able to identify other relevant threads, not lost in general waffle about a larger topic.

EmeraldShamrock · 21/11/2021 13:51

I read whatever catches my eye in active conversations, most are posted in aibu.

Sparklingbrook · 21/11/2021 14:00

I think as most threads are started in AIBU then Active will be made up of those threads...

littlelordfuckleroy · 21/11/2021 14:53

@Lilolily

Thankyou everyone who has replied sensibly, I agree that there are too many sub boards etc but I just hate to see anyone answering their own posts clearly thinking nobody has bothered to reply.

Those who took this as an opportunity to be sarcastic or mean, nobody wants your advice anyway so crack on like you usually do. You do you boo!

Hmm
Toottooot · 21/11/2021 14:57

Aw wow - I had no idea other boards existed until your post.

BigYellowHat · 21/11/2021 16:03

MN definitely has too many boards. There was a huge bun fight last year (I think) when a certain poster insisted on yet another board being added for a sub group of the population. I’m not going to say what the board is because no doubt I’ll get flamed! The irony is that the topics (to me) seem even more segregated now they’re in their new home. I think MN could be vastly improved with fewer boards.

That board gets a fair amount of traffic from people who want to be able to discuss things with other people from the same background.

Just like adopters need to be able to discuss things without non-adopters coming on saying 'all children do that' or 'just use time out' or whatever.

There are a lot of boards and of course there is some overlap, but that's the way of things. There are loads of sections I go nowhere near, as they aren't of interest, but I don't begrudge other people having them. If anyone thinks some boards aren't needed, then go onto the Site board and suggest it.

Have to agree. I stopped using sen one as split into too many subs and most ate like tumbleweeds

Many of the people who "only" look at AIBU can't even be bothered to read the thread, the date or the OPs updates.

Please don't let them loose Grin
