Apple AirPods for wfh

Sorry posting here for traffic

Does anyone use apple AirPods for work?
Am struggling to find headset that is compatible with Mac, they all tend to be very bulky.
Could I use AirPods? Is the noise cancellation good? Would the caller be able to hear me clearly? Without background noise

Also if anyone can recommend wireless headset compatible with max which isn't bulky. That will be helpful

It will be the best purchase you've made if you have an apple macbook. It connects automatically (if you have an iPhone it switches as well). On calls where I dont need to present or have camera on - I walk around the house which is great when your days are relentless. When my old ones broke, I bought a new pair without thinking.

Is the noise cancellation good on it? Which one do you have? Am thinking to opt for the pro if I do get it

The foam makes my ears feel weird. I prefer headphones or the normal plastic earphones earphones

Ozanj · 21/11/2021 14:04

It’s excellent with Apple products. Next to useless on non-Apple ones though

I don’t know what they’re like with non-Apple phones but I use mine with my work Lenovo laptop and haven’t had any trouble with them whatsoever.

The noise cancelling isn’t as good as huge powered headphones but is great for EarPods. I’ve had colleagues comment on the clarity of my microphone when wandering around the garden on a call.

I’m v glad I took the plunge. One even still works after falling into a cup of tea...

You need the Pros for the noise cancellation. I use them, but I've swapped out the silicone tips (I'm allergic to whatever Apple uses) for memory foam ones which makes them more comfy for me.

DD has air pods but uses Bose Qc headphones with noise cancelling with her Mac, she attends an Internet school and has used these for years, you just make sure with Bose products you order Mac lead if necessary ( we have a number as DH and Dc use a cross section of Mac non Mac Bose apple AirPods)

Bose also often have open box deals that are refurbished on their outlet website at very good prices

Don’t know about using them, but I’ve had video calls with people who’ve been using them and the sound has been fine at my end.

Ozanj · 21/11/2021 15:19

@Letsnotargue - a lot of my colleagues use them as they already have them & even the pros don’t seem to provide effective noise cancellation on the non-Apple laptops and software that we use. It has gotten to the point where these colleagues are now being asked to audio dial in using their mobile phones.

Noise cancellation only works for the person using the AirPods though.

I use my (standard) air pods with my Lenovo. They're great. However on the advice of a techy person I was on Zoom with, I switch the mic to the laptop ones for zoom calls as apparently that is better sound quality

purplesequins · 21/11/2021 15:31

they are ok, but from colleagues using them the microphone is not always in the best position i.e. the person can be hard to understand.

I have cheapo wireless ones with cord which seems to be better for that (microphone closer to mouth) but they only last a couple of hours.

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 21/11/2021 17:29

I've got second generation ones. I recently needed to replace but didn't go for the most expensive ones.

Bobsyer · 21/11/2021 17:30

My friends uses them. They need charging after an hour long meeting.

watchingrnfire · 21/11/2021 19:54

@Bobsyer that doesn't sound right. they are supposed to last a good few hours after one charge

SunndyD · 21/11/2021 19:57

@Bobsyer some deffo isn’t right there, can use mine for 6/7 hours without any need to charge
