To worry Dunham Massey lights could be terribly crowded?

Got tickets booked for four kids and a little worried in case it will be exceptionally crowded from a covid perspective.

It’s all outside isn’t it? It looks busy in all the pictures I’ve seen on Facebook from people I know but it’s a sold out ticketed attraction so I’d expect it to be.
If you don’t want to go though, I always see people asking for tickets on social media so you can always get rid of them.

MrsHookey · 21/11/2021 15:54

@bollocksthemess thank you!

I'm worried about this too i booked mid December

5foot5 · 21/11/2021 16:17

Presumably if you have to book tickets then this means the numbers will be limited anyway. I know it was always an event that had to be pre-booked. Perhaps they will have reduced the numbers more for Covid?
I was at Chatsworth recently and they were managing numbers in the house and at the market so that it was less busy then previous years

But as PP said - it is outside.

Freddiefox · 21/11/2021 16:19

It’s outside I assume? Honesty if you’re children are at school they are much more likely to catch it there

Liverbird77 · 21/11/2021 16:21

I'm going. I am not at all worried. It's outside and there's plenty of space. Hope you have a lovely time!

FeltCarrot · 21/11/2021 16:22

We went Xmas Eve two years ago and it was fine, you can take your time ambling around. Don’t worry, you’ll love it, it’s fab!

SusannahHolmes · 21/11/2021 16:22

I have been a couple of times. It's timed tickets and a long walk and it doesn't feel rammed at all.

Voord · 21/11/2021 16:37

Went a few years ago - was busy but didn’t feel crowded at all, and it’s all outdoors.

relatehelp · 21/11/2021 16:53

If you aren't comfortable attending events due to covid why book tickets Confused Christmas events are always packed

Right? It's not crowded, you're the crowd!

Yep, same here. We went last year so that we had something Christmassy to do, as the Santa rain had to be cancelled. We're going to one in our hometown this year and it hadn't even crossed my mind to be worried, seeing as it's outside. Xmas Smile
WillThisUsernameDo · 21/11/2021 17:02

It’s not inside. It will be busy but surely you knew this when you booked. Just sell the tickets if you’re worried about it, people are always asking for them.

StrawberrySquash · 21/11/2021 17:20

Right? It's not crowded, you're the crowd!

No. Any event which is ticketed I'd expect the organisers to plan numbers. That's just basic health and safety. With Covid it gets a bit fuzzy because we know crowding isn't great, but the government isn't really laying out rules any more so before an event it's hard to know how the organisers have managed things. There is still a small risk outside, but agree, school will be riskier.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2021 17:29

I went to the one at Belton last year. I went early and it was not to crowded, but people who went later did complain the lack of social distancing and crowds.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2021 17:32

It was brilliant though.

readwhatiactuallysay · 21/11/2021 17:56

I dont understand the argument of if your child is attending school, you should then not care about putting yourself in potentially risky situations. Common sense would say, you are already placing yourselves at risk in one setting to educate your child, lets minimise any more unnecessary risky settings so as not to multiply the risk unnecessarily.

Anywhoo... Dunham maasey is all outdoors and we didn't feel like it was "people on top of you". I dislike really crowded places anyway, but this wasnt too bad last year.
With no restrictions, who knows what numbers they are allowing in trying to maximise now from their loss from last year, but it is outdoors so i think it would be ok.

Ouch44 · 21/11/2021 18:07

We went last year and it was crowded even though there were supposed to be restrictions then. Decided not to go this year as last year was too similar to previous year.
However like PP have said it's outside, you have kids at school. There is the risk not DM. Go and enjoy it. Your children won't want to do this kind of thing forever!

MrsHookey · 22/11/2021 00:40

We went. We had a lovely time. It was not too crowded and felt very civilised. Had to chase after a SEN child periodically and people looked askance but hey it had to de done.

We’re going New Year’s Eve as tickets sold out for the run up to Christmas (and this was the week they were released!). I’ve never been before and really looking forward to it.

I always feel the risk is reduced outside so I’m way more relaxed about these things now (plus I’m triple vaccinated).

Not to derail the thread, but for those that have been before, is it worth buying the ride tickets in advance? I have a six year old and apparently there are three rides available along the lines of a merry go round, I think.

Thanks.

MrsHookey · 23/11/2021 11:46

No don't buy the tickets in advance.

MrsHookey · 23/11/2021 11:47

One ride had an incredibly steep slide and my really adventurous child just chickened out at the top. There was a merry go round and a swinging thing. Just buy the tokens at the kiosk. I would think you will only want the MGR for a six year old.

Thank you, @MrsHookey

maddening · 23/11/2021 19:57

We went last year, it was fine. It is all outside and tickets are timed so entry is phased.
