Pain like this?

Sorry posting for traffic…

39+4 weeks pregnant, quite a bit of pain going on mid to lower right side, not contractions but like a constant pain that feels like a really bad pulled muscle or awful bruise but constat, any sort of touch on that side is agony, couldn’t move from lying down this morning and can’t walk unassisted.

Maternity triage just said take paracetamol, which I’ve done.

Anyone else had anything like this? What was it?

I don't know but you need to be seen straight away, ignore that midwife's advice for a start!

JazzHandsYeah · 20/11/2021 10:15

Yep, I agree, you should be seen today. Call 111

user14943608381 · 20/11/2021 13:26

I’ve called 111 and waiting on a callback from a doctor.

Triage have said because I’ve got no bleeding or fluid loss it’s probably fine and not to go in but bloody hell it hurts

I had a similar pain and couldn't stand up straight, my bump felt really tight and it felt like something might snap if I did, they told me to take paracetamol and that it was probably just ligaments. 3 days later I had a massive hemorrhage and went into instant labour that only lasted an hour. It turned out I'd had a placental abruption that was slowly bleeding into the womb, my baby almost died and I was seriously ill. I don't want to panic you but please push for them to look further into this!

Thank you! My placenta is on the front right side too! I’ll call them back xx

Midwife here. If I had answered your call I would have asked you to attend triage to be seen. Please go in.

Thanks @Thedogscollar think they think I’m a bit barmy but they’ve agreed to see me, heading in now x

What should they be doing, they’ve begrudgingly said to go in but ‘all they’re going to do is put me on a ctg’ words from the woman who answered the phone, should I be asking for anything else? X

@Namechangetimes100
In our unit you would have a full set of obs checked, urine dip and ctg. A full history would be taken by the midwife re the pain, onset where it is and if you have taken any analgesia and it's effect if any. We would take bloods to check for Pre eclampsia as severe pain under ribs on right side could indicate liver involvement. You do not need all the symptoms of pre eclampsia for you to be diagnosed. Once I've done this I would ask the registrar to review you and if they think prudent they can carry out an ultrasound scan.
Good luck. It is always good practice to invite a woman in for an examination with your symptoms. Being unable to walk and in agony from just touching is not normal and would be ringing alarm bells with me.

Thedogscollar · 20/11/2021 16:57

BTW you are most definitely not barmy. You did exactly the right thing. This is why triage exists.

kitkatsky · 20/11/2021 17:03

It sounds a bit like PGP but I'm not a doctor and agree you need a proper check over. Then, if it is nothing, you'll go home and take paracetamol. No need to take risks at your stage though!

user14943608381 · 20/11/2021 17:49

Went in and they were lovely, must have been a different person who answered the phone. Had urine dip and obs (all normal) ctg (2 5 second decels) so saw an OB who was happy with the rest of the ctg. had a growth scan at 38+2 so they were happy with that based on growth trajectory and liquor volume. No loss, bleeding or mucus plug so they thought it just might be stretching or baby with an elbow or shoulder in an area that’s just made it sore, or some combination of both but nothing serious. No ultrasound scan. I’ve had quite bad pgp too, so this is why women hate the end of pregnancy lol

Glad to hear it was nothing serious Thanks

user14943608381 · 21/11/2021 17:18

Thank you all! I was quite worried when I saw the decels but they said it could be baby just squeezing the cord x
