DS is 15 nearly 16. He’s gone to a party tonight. What do you think is a reasonable time for him to leave the party and come home? If it makes a difference, I’m giving him a lift there and back.

What are his friends doing? Honestly at that age it's best to be similar to them

Milkshake54 · 19/11/2021 21:15

If you are collecting… midnight? (And are happy to stay up this late)

HideousKinky · 19/11/2021 21:19

I'd say midnight

JumperandJacket · 19/11/2021 21:25

Thank you, everyone. Feeling a bit mean now as I said 11.

I was going to say midnight too.

RedskyThisNight · 19/11/2021 21:28

In isolation I'd also say midnight. however if you're picking him up I think it partly depends how late you are prepared to stay up. If you're normally in bed for 10, or have to be up early tomorrow for work, he might have to accept he leaves earlier (or sorts alternative transport).

shouldistop · 19/11/2021 21:30

I'd have said midnight but I wouldn't really like staying up that late. I have little ones though and get up at 6am. If you're not too tired then I'd text him and tell him he can have another hour if he's having a good time, you'll win 'cool' points Smile

HollowTalk · 19/11/2021 21:31

Yes, get in his good books by telling him you've changed it to midnight.

silverbubbles · 19/11/2021 21:36

I think 11pm is fine. 12 pm would have been nice however it does depends on others and also how much they are enjoying the evening.

Also, if you say 12pm now next time it is likely to be the same or later.

I picked up my son at 11pm and was fine about it. The following week I picked up at 1am but got there a bit early and they were glad to go as it wasn't a great party.....

TwoleftUggs · 19/11/2021 21:44

I usually say 11.30 as invariably someone or other will be faffing around at the end and it takes another 10 mins. I like to be home and in my pjs by midnight.

Undertheoldlindentree · 19/11/2021 21:48

Quite normal among my daughter's friends for parents to end the party at 10pm (Year 11, so all aged 15/16).

JumperandJacket · 19/11/2021 21:57

Thanks, all. I’m feeling a bit sleepy now so will leave it at 11 but maybe midnight next time.

I always say earlier than I'd be truly happy with.

They have to learn the art of negotiation!
