Celiacs. Help please?

My AIBU is - AIBU to think I should be able to ask the receptionist what my stool is being sent off to test?

I vaguely remember celiacs mentioned by a nurse and wondered if it was anything else.

The results have showed that the GP want to discuss the results so I'm in the dark for 2 weeks until then.

Anyone got any experience of what they might have looked for?

What it might show to indicate celiacs?

I had bloods which showed raised ESR, low iron and low calcium.

Can you ask to talk to a nurse to find out what the tests are for? I had a coeliac test recently but it was a blood test. Also had stool samples too. I know one was to check for blood but not sure about the other. Hope you get some answers soon.

Possibly

They can also test for H pylori with a stool sample.

Chances are the receptionists don’t know what the tests are actually for and, even if they read it off your notes, could mean you ask more questions which they then can’t answer.

If it was something urgent the Dr would have called you or booked to speak to you sooner rather than leave it as ‘speak to dr’. Try not to worry.

I didn’t give a stool sample for my coeliac diagnosis, blood test and endoscopy for me. Hope you find out what it’s for!

That's interesting.

What was it about your bloods that made them go straight to endoscopy?

High levels I think, my son was previously diagnosed so we all had the blood test and mine showed raised markers, I had no apparent symptoms. Since being gluten free I have more energy and less indigestion! (My two main symptoms if I get glutened)

A blood test will show if you have coeliac antibodies in your blood - if they are there then a biopsy will be needed, as this is still the only definitive way of diagnosing coeliac disease. Stool samples aren't used to diagnose this.

What are the coeliac antibodies?

I had bloods, which showed low HB, raised ESR.

From this, the GP ordered more bloods (which showed lower HB, and low calcium) and ordered a FIT test (for early bowel cancer detection) and the stool sample ?coeliac.

So what in my bloods would show coeliac antibodies?

I just looked at the NICE guidelines for the pathway for a diagnoses and it doesn't appear to follow anything mentioned on here aside from @Whatwithonethingandanother, but weirdly, not my GP's route despite it being mentioned.

Curious and curiouser.

I'm so bloody impatient with this kind of thing.
Knowing the information is Right There and I won't know for 2-3 weeks.
