OK so I posted a while back about this under different name but basically dsis basically wants to buy us an experience rather than gifts for Christmas yet has sent us a list of things for us to buy for her family.
I replied that we should just knock this gift buying for adults on the head and just buy for dds and sent details over of what out kids want. Vouchers as teens . Her response was I don't want to buy ITunes vouchers as they had them for birthdays.
Tbh I don't give a toss about gifts so I said fair enough don't bother and we will just get a small gift for your dds.
So was I wrong?

Not wrong at all I don't think op.
It's ridiculous quite frankly all this buy this buy that if she's going to get funny just say you would rather not receive anything at all and you will give nothing either.

Or just exchange a family gift like a boardgame.

I hate it when people dictate what to buy. What is the point in that, just keep your money, buy it yourself and stop swapping gifts. The idea of gifting is its a surprise etc but to make it into a chore is no fun. YANBU.

I do still intend to buy her dds something whatever as they are little and Christmas is special when you are little. My kids are older so are less bothered but just sick of the nonsense.

We stopped adult gifts years ago. If people object to giving vouchers or money to teens and that's all they want, then best to stop altogether.

Coka · 19/11/2021 12:26

Unless there's more to the story it seems like you were pretty harsh. Why not give her a few different options for your dds.

From your post it sounds like your dsis is trying be thoughtful with nice gifts and experiences .

Hifidelity1977 · 19/11/2021 12:35

So it is perfectly acceptable @Coka for her to expect and get exactly what she and her family want but also gets to choose what she buys for us.

Nice experiences aren't always nice either with SEN kids. We need to choose wisely what we do and buying us gifts is nit on the cards and that is fine tbh.

I don't think you are U at all. I had this with my in laws too. Requesting specific things for themselves and then ignoring any suggestions we gave them for our children and spending an absolute pittance on them (it's not about the money btw but the inequality). It just takes the piss. Either requesting presents is ok or everyone gets a surprise. You can't have it both ways.
