Ok so I started feeling a bit of a tickle in my throat last Sunday.
I had a PCR test Saturday and that came back negative.
I did a lateral flow test when I started feeling unwell and that was negative. I have done a few this week just to be "certain" it was just a cold. They've all come back negative.
Last night I put Vickes on and couldn't smell it. I got up this morning and tried all sorts and cannot smell a thing so I booked a PCR test.
DH says I should have just waited until I went back to work tomorrow and done it there (I'm tested weekly), but the way I see it is IF it is covid I'd be taking it in and spreading it around vulnerable people. He's also pissed that he has to have an operation next week and he's worried if it's positive that it may be cancelled. I've tried explaining to him that even if I didn't have the test today that I'd have to be tested tomorrow at work so the results would be the same. And neither test stops me having a cold now and I'm staying away from him as much as possible as it is so he doesn't catch it.

Then I phoned work.... They say it's probably the cold everyone else has. But as I've gone for a test I can't go back in until it comes back negative....but if it comes back during the day I'm to go in straight away as they're short staffed.

I just feel like everyone is pissed at me for following the rules and getting tested when I have covid symptoms....and no wonder people aren't getting tested and are spreading it around.

The test last Saturday was a routine one before you got symptoms. Yes you’re absolutely right to get a PCR and wait for the result before you go back to work. Hopefully it’s just a cold

You’ve done the right thing

Madmog · 19/11/2021 14:43

I had what I thought was a cold, but on day three I lost my taste, so I did exactly what you've done and got tested. Either way, it's better to know in the next couple of days.

Why is your husband annoyed? Doesn't he realise that if he has had covid, whether he knows about it or not, there's an increased risk that he won't be able to breathe on his own after having a general anaesthetic. Does he really want to end up in intensive care?

MalbecandToast · 19/11/2021 14:50

Hope it comes back negative OP

Yep you did the right thing.
My DD2 and her dh were doing LFTS daily after I tested positive (my LFT was blazingly positive, followed by the PCR and I was quite poorly)
They had negative tests for 5 days, but decided to do PCRs just in case as had visitors coming...
Positive... now both in isolation. Without they PCR neither would have known as they aren't feeling unwell.
