to think that teachers should follow the same rule re; retuning to school after illness?

DS2's teacher had to keep leaving the classroom to be sick yesterday and went home once replacement arrived.
She was back at school today.

School rule for the children is 24/48 hrs after last been sick.

Shouldn't that apply to teachers too? I am now worrying what ds2 might of picked up from her.(emetophobe!)
Wouldn't of thought she would really feel upto teaching today either!

You don;t know why she was sick though. MAybe she had eaten something that had disagreed with her therefore not a contagous tummy bug, or maybe she is pregnant.

TrinityTheRedNosedRhino · 14/12/2007 18:01

maybe she is pregnant

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 14/12/2007 18:03

I think most teachers would prefer that rule was enforced for them too but the reality is that they are wanted back at school asap.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 18:03

Definatly not preg .
I know she might not be contagious but but but

Ok maybe

I do sympathise though as another emetophobe!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 18:11

Thanks islandofsodor.
ds2 said she was helping him before she went off to be sick. So worried he will get it then the other 3 will be ill for christmas.

Oh Tort I do sympathise DD's teacher has been off with 2 tummy bugs I keep reassuring myself she is an adult and will use different toilets and know how to wash her hands

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 18:28

yes the teacher does have seperate toilets but what if she breathed on him? Could it pass that way?I have no idea!

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 14/12/2007 18:33

I would be worried too, Tort. (emetophobic smiley)
It does seem a bit strange. I hope your son doesn't catch anything.
I do take comfort from the fact that mine probably got his nasty bug from sharing the toilets with everyone in his year, and well we all know how 'careful' four year olds are...

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 18:49

thanks TFA.[fmile]
DS's are at their Dads tonight so its best if he is going to be ill to make it tonight! !

Help DD has tummy ache her teacher came back to school on Tuesday and said she was just about better help

Blandmum · 14/12/2007 19:21

and if she stayed home the extra days, you would have just as many hacked off parents, upset that their kid's teacher was off school (see numerous MN threads! )

UnquietDad · 14/12/2007 19:25

Teachers can't win, can they? Sigh.
Getting it in the neck for everything at the moment.

TinselHockey · 14/12/2007 19:29

Completely agree. I think they are truly hated on here.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 19:31

I think me DS2's teacher is great. DS2 was quite upset she was ill.
I just didn't expect her to be back the next day. I know if i had been ill one day i wouldn't feel up to much the next day!

ineedapoo- hope DD is ok. Hopefully wind or something minoR!

TinselHockey · 14/12/2007 19:32

She sounds dedicated.

So stop complaining.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 19:35

I am not complaining!
If schools want kids to stay home to keep germs reduced then i think it should be the same for the teacher.
I feel sorry for her if she had no choice but to go in.

How I wwish the 24 hours rule was enforced for us....but no it's not.

We are expected to stagger in as best we can, even feeling like crap........

hercules1 · 14/12/2007 20:07

It takes a lot for a teacher to be able to stay at home off sick.
You'd moan if they waited as it costs about £200 supply a day...

Lauriefairycake · 14/12/2007 20:29

My god if there was this rule taxes wouldn't have go up to cover the education budget

My husband is constantly sick at school due to hugely over heated classrooms, not enough water and frenetic days - but has no germs to pass on, he just can't bear the stuffiness.

bunnyhunny · 14/12/2007 20:35

my god! If we were off after sickness like everyone else we would hardly be in! We are exposed to so many bugs, I have had a constant runny nose / sore throat etc for weeks. I lost my voice, but still went in. The sickness bug wiped out most of our staff - if we all waited 24 / 48 hours, there would be a day or so with no teacher in the school at all!

I know it seems stupid, but I think most teachers feel very guilty for being off sick. Either TA's cover, with no work planned for them, or the kids do no work at all, or a supply teacher comes in who the class (as a rule) don't work as well for, and anre naughty for.

And what with christmas performances and all the pressures of making cards, calendars, presents that have to be of a half decent standard to take home, lots of teachers who would be off sick if they had an office job, probably struggle in.

cornsilk · 14/12/2007 20:40

FFS! If she is ill don't you think she'd rather be at home than stuck in a classroom having to cater for 30+ kids? If teachers didn't get so much stick then maybe they wouldn't feel the need to go into work when they are not well.

clam · 14/12/2007 20:47

Oh FFS! ;airg;aeiughfdnvaorign8u987e894**8

clam · 14/12/2007 20:50

Oops! Did I forget to say Yes, YABU!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 14/12/2007 20:53

bunny-I am only talking about vomiting.

cornsilk-I am not giving her stick. Like i said i feel sorry for her if she had to go in. But i worry about my DC catching sickness. I can't help having a phobia about sick!
