Fat dissolver injections?

EsmeSusanOgg · 18/11/2021 20:52

I've seen these offered at loads of beauticians, and aesthetic clinics locally. They sound too good to be true, but I'm finding it hard to find non-marketing info about them online.

What are the downsides to them?

I'd definitely veer strongly towards 'too good to be true'.

Is it called Cool Sculpting?

That's the procedure that Linda Evangelista says has left her disfigured. Apparently in some instances rather than dissolving fat it actually solidifies it into blocks.

EsmeSusanOgg · 18/11/2021 20:58

No, this is Desobody or Kybella (sp) they have FDA approval and can be used for double chins, muffin tops etc.

But I just don't buy the idea that there's 'virtually no side effects' or no 'down time'.

Trying to find out more info though, because who isn't interested in a quick fix? And all I can find on Google is loads of glowing marketing stuff. Which makes me wary.

There are No quick fixes, just middle men after your money

"Supermodel Linda Evangelista has said she has been left "permanently deformed" due to an adverse reaction to a fat reduction procedure."

"The 56-year-old revealed she had experienced a rare cosmetic side effect of the treatment five years ago which actually increased her fat cells."

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 18/11/2021 21:13

Erm, no. If it was that easy everyone would be doing it.

Wingutyoy · 18/11/2021 21:16

The day there is a simple fix, tablet/injection to magically loose weight / fat it will be headline news all over the world and on every news channel and paper. Until that time take it as bollocks to get cash out of your pocket. Grin

EsmeSusanOgg · 18/11/2021 21:35

A lot of the tabloids talk about these. But there doesn't appear to be any critical analysis of the pros and cons.

Pills to get rid of the fat basically make you shit yourself. You are incontinent and they don't really make you loose weight.

Almost every comment on here is referencing something completely different and the level of ignorance is staggering

No it’s not cool sculpting (fat freezing) totally different

No it’s not fat reducing tablets totally different

It’s injecting a substance under the skin (in some instances it’s based on soybeans) sometimes called mesotherapy

Been around for YEARS

hurts quite a lot and the area swells a hell of a lot for a few days

Had to be done by a doctor in the U.K. and uncommon process here in 2008 certainly

For gods sake, if you are thinking about this, Read up on this properly, understand the mechanisms that go on in your body

This was what it was like 2007 or so

In 2021 it’s likely to be a similar substance perhaps less downtime , similar effect

It dissolves the fat and your body processes it

Yes it works but it’s subtle not dramatic

The U.K. is seriously useless at legislating control of such things

Don’t get ANYTHING like this done unless it’s a doctor

Not a dentist, not a bloody beautician ffs

A doctor!

Read reviews from the USA and Australia

Again: only go to a doctor who has done this procedure a lot. Read read read. Ask a lot of questions, ask for before and after pics.

It will work, but how much will come off? Is this the best method? Listen to the answers carefully and never ever trust someone without a medical degree.

And the large weightloss companies would probably pay millions to the developer to suppress it because it would be the end of WW, Slimming World, Slimfast etc. etc.

There is definitely downtime for kybella. It causes the area to swell up quite a lot, if you have it under your chin you will look like a bullfrog. And to get best results you will often need multiple injections given at intervals.

Welshiefluff · 18/11/2021 22:59

Even if they do work, unless you make changes to your eating habits you will put the fat back on again.

MrsSkylerWhite · 18/11/2021 23:02

If something sounds too good to be true it’s because it is.

Don’t mess with your health.

This: You wouldn't go to a baker for a haircut! This is your face it matters. My surgeon has said I'd need a week off work, bruising is bad and that it is painful. There is down time and it does work.
