AIBU rudeness?

NC’ed for this as pretty outing if anybody involves is on MN!
I get veggie boxes delivered from a local farm and my last delivery was a month ago. A few days ago I called to order and was told that I was banned - as I was rude to the driver? When queried apparently I slammed the door in his face. That’s all. Not anything else I said, or did, just that. I asked specifically.
Our door slams all the time unless I’m being extra careful - so if it did happen it would have been because I was in a hurry and rushing to get stuff in. I don’t remember much but I’ve bought from them before and was always polite - however that was the only time I recall being in a hurry at the time of the day.
AIBU to think that they’re being extreme?
For context I’m not that bothered about not buying from them. It just seems very extreme - I can understand not paying, physical assault, yelling or insults but this?also if I did it multiple times yes but this is the first time.

For context I’m always that person who’s extra nice to delivery people etc (I used to wait tables so I appreciate it) and they have commented on it too. So this stings, it’s really not like me.

I'd find it hard to let this go and would fight my corner by sending the footage. I'd never lower myself to buy from them again however Angry

In your specific situation, if I'm going 100% by your version (not that I'm saying it's not true) then they are being a little unreasonable. However I wish that in general, rude/abusive customers could be banned. I used to work in a call centre for a national supermarket chain and the abuse that they used to let customers subject us to was awful, with no repercussions for the customer. I would 100% support a business who stood up to bullying customers.

godmum56 · 18/11/2021 13:51

I'd let it go and let them go

Sparklfairy · 18/11/2021 13:53

Whats odd is it upset him enough that he went scuttling back to his bosses whining "she slammed the door! Ban her!"

And what are they saying, that even if you apologised and explained it was a misunderstanding, the ban stands as hes too traumatised to face you again?

Its all kinds of fucking weird and I'd just take my business elsewhere to avoid the drama!

Yes same - It’s rare to have a business go the opposite way 😂😂

I used to be a casual waitress and being abused was not fun

Exactly. The fact that I called up and tried to explain/apologise was of no use - he said that they expect customers to be civil and I was banned, and that’s that.

It seems like they’ve already made up their mind and just written me off that I find so strange. Surely if I was actually abusive I wouldn’t be calling up? And again they have delivered to me several times.

I would show then the video and ask if the behaviour of the man delivering was acceptable, facing the wall ( rude) than you

If they still say you are banned I would then leave a negative review and state why

BlankTimes · 18/11/2021 14:09

I'd definitely send them a copy of the video.

Theunamedcat · 18/11/2021 14:12

Send them a copy of the video and source somewhere else for your veg

ZenNudist · 18/11/2021 14:12

Bad Google review.

Do you think it is racist

KaycePollard · 18/11/2021 14:13

Just go elsewhere. Chalk it up to experience and different perspectives. If they don't want your money, that's their problem.

AcrossthePond55 · 18/11/2021 14:53

Is it possible that they've been wanting to stop deliveries to your general location for time/cost purposes because it's 'further out' than the majority of their deliveries?

Some of the smaller places here are starting to 'pull in' their delivery areas due to rising fuel costs rather than getting bad PR for increasing their prices/delivery charges.

BornInAThunderstorm · 18/11/2021 14:57

If you know you weren’t rude then don’t even bother wasting your energy on arguing it. If they don’t want your business take it elsewhere.

NeverChange · 19/11/2021 23:35

Absolutely bizarre behaviour from both the delivery driver and the owner who imposed the ban. Are you out of the way in terms of location or difficult to access?

You could email but given their attitude it's probably a waste of time. I suspect the delivery driver has a bit of an attitude problem and they will only discover this as the number of "banned customers" on his route increases over time.

Absolutely astounding that anyone would consider losing out on business for a one of misrepresented incident which is non threatening and non abusive.

PeachCottonTree · 19/11/2021 23:45

I was also thinking it could be a fulfilment/delivery issue. They’ve maybe got too many customers and not enough produce so are trying to whittle them down a bit. Strange way to go about it though. It’s happened near me with organic milk deliveries, some customers were just told they were no longer being delivered to. Some even offered to pay extra but were still refused.

Luredbyapomegranate · 19/11/2021 23:58

It’s ludicrous/terrible customer service to ban someone for a single incident without evidence or checking with them. I’d send an email saying so and not use them again. If I was peeved, I’d leave a review saying so and not use them again.

Cheeserton · 19/11/2021 23:58

They so need calling out on this. If you actually think it could be racially motivated for example, not only send it, but perhaps suggest that given the lack of alternative reasonable explanation you might have to seek a more public opinion, from a local paper for example.
